... today (6/24) is the day I marry the guy who got me into the Giants, whose fandom I have now surpassed in true obsessive-compulsive style ... Anyway.
Back in '02 (the year after I moved to San Francisco) the kiddo (JDD, who has an account here as "jdd") got tickets from work for the postseason games here in The City. I worked nights so he went with the coworkers. Since it was late in '02 things were getting exciting and he started listening on KNBR. This may have been after he went into a bathroom at Mays Field-then-PacBell Park and saw the graffiti: "Fire Joe Angel."
Anyway, he started listening and I would come home from a swing shift at the Examiner (taking dictation for a Barry Bonds teaser headline for the front page) and I'd go: "You're listening to baseball?! Sports on the radio at home? WHY?"
For awhile neither of us could tell Angel and Miller apart. But it got to the point where we'd both listen to either of them call a ballgame and we'd happily listen to Jon Miller read the phone book. At the end of '02 I was ambivalent but supportive; at the beginning of '03 I was a fan; by midseason '03 I was the insane nutcase you see here now.
We're getting hitched during the last Yankees game here and BaronVonCurrentEvents will be there, whispering the score at me if she can divine it through cellular or other means. The Giants were gracious enough to win one for us tonight (if in a few years you hear of me naming my first born "Nate," well, you'll know why). So let's hear it for a beautiful relationship -- me and JDD and the Giants. BTW, our last song of the evening will be "I Left My Heart In San Francisco."
