Re: RIP Rod Beck
this is awful. Shooter was one of the best.

They HAVE to do something at the game today.

Re: RIP Rod Beck
Damn! 38 freakin' years old. That is way too early to die.

I loved watching this guy pitch. Thanks for the memories indeed, Shooter.

Re: RIP Rod Beck
Wow, I really don't know what to say.  All of us who were growing up during his tenure learned a lot about intensity in the closers role and he really did epitomize who the Giants were and who many of us wish they still are.

I really don't have words past that...so very very sad regardless of the circumstances.

Re: RIP Rod Beck
I hope they do a tribute to him at the ballpark soon. I'll go to pay my last respects.
Strikeouts are boring. Besides that, they're fascist. Not boring: Emmanuel Burriss. Not fascist: SF Dugout

Re: RIP Rod Beck
I'm going, too.  We should have a toast to Beck.
I would say 9th inning... but they don't sell beer that late.

7th inning stretch, on the concorce in front of the mitt/soda bottle?

Re: RIP Rod Beck
I'm going tonight.  I'm expecting a tribute or something before the game starts, unless they did something yesterday.  Anyone know?
Despite having a "For Sale" sign stapled to his forehead, Ryan Klesko's OPS+ is 123 as of 6/25/07. (Platoon shmlatoon; it's 195 vs. LHP)

Re: RIP Rod Beck
They didn't do anything yesterday. They likely didn't want the 1962 World Series stuff to overshadow it. They'll likely do something tonight.

Re: RIP Rod Beck
Beck and Nen really spoiled us for other closers, didn't they?

Re: RIP Rod Beck
I never mention Nen without mentioning Beck in the next breath. Both were from the same mold. Both gave their absolute all to the team. Both went out with the team in a blaze of glory.

I'd say Shooter gets a plaque of some sort around the ballpark soon.

Lest We Forget
People forget about '93.

Beck was as lights out as it gets.

Even Lights-Out-Robby from 97-99 would agree.

Re: RIP Rod Beck
He wore many uniforms, but I can only conjure up one image of him in my mind.  Leaned over, arm swining, long, mullet-esque hair blowing in the Candlestick wind, fu-man-chu eeking around the corners of his mouth, wearing the nineties Giants uniform.
