Giants auditioning Taschner?

I was wondering if anyone else thinks the Giants might be auditioning Taschner and Kline to be shipped to other teams, especially with the impending fire sale and Wilson/Munter/Misch at AAA.
Anyone looking for an old lefty and another that can't get lefties out?
I was looking at previous games and trying to determine if Taschner had been getting more appearances lately, and it doesn't appear to be so,  but I would not shed a tear if either of these two were shipped off for a pair of ham sandwiches and a premium malt beverage.
Kline actually hasn't given up a run this month... I digress... trade him now.

Re: Giants auditioning Taschner?
Taschner is an interesting player.  His success has been primarily against righties, for whatever reason it may be.  I think Bochy's finally began to realize this, and has used him in non-LOOGY roles.

I say keep Taschner around and let Kline go.  Misch could step up in Kline's place.  If I'm not mistaken, though, hasn't Misch kind of cooled off after his torrid start?

Re: Giants auditioning Taschner?
I agree.  They had better keep Agent Jack around...I've adopted him, after all.
I've got your back, Special Agent Jack Taschner.

Re: Giants auditioning Taschner?
If the player you adopted gets traded, you get to adopt the player he's traded for! So, go C prospect we'll get for Kline! Make me proud!

Oddly enough, "C prospect we'll get for Kline" is now my third favorite Giant. Rough times.

Re: Giants auditioning Taschner?
Yeah, I want to keep taschner, but I would definitely let kline go around

Re: Giants auditioning Taschner?
Taschner's ERA and walk rate would probably scare away most contenders. He won't make much over the league minimum again next year, so we're probably better off keeping him around and hoping that he gets over his issues with walks and lefties.

Kline might slowly be pitching himself into someone a contender with a LOOGY-lovin' GM might give up a C prospect for. He has allowed eight baserunners and zero runs over 8 1/3 innings in June.

Good thing...
we gave up a C+ prospect to get kline, huh?  Typical Sabean move.

LaTroy Hawkins? Martis for Stanton was the C+ for LOOGY trade.

Re: Giants auditioning Taschner?
Aye - Kline is the kind of guy we ought to be shopping. What we should do, IMO - is take the $3 million or we save on him (if he's dealt) and spend that on the draft - take a couple of hard to sign prospects, rather than sticking to some pre-concieved draft budget. This year, would we rather have had Rich Aurillia, or $8M to spend on Rick Porcello or a bunch of the hard to sign high-school/college bats?

Re: Giants auditioning Taschner?
Super question, and I do believe the correct answer is "Rick Porcello," who by coincidence allegedly has a signing floor of ... $8 million.

I think Rick is going to be a very fine pitcher.  I would have snagged him with that second pick.  I wonder of the Giants were going to gamble on his with their third pick, which came just two choices after Detroit snagged Rich with #27.  Whata SMOOTH move by the Tigers.  And if they DON'T sign him, they get the pick back next season.

Re: Giants auditioning Taschner?
That's an awful lot of money for a high school pitcher. The Giants picked two other pitchers in the first round, and they have plenty of pitching as it is. As for the Taschner-Kline thing, the idea of unloading is to get rid of the unproductive veterans and keep the younger guys. Taschner is a younger guy. Keep Jack and dump Kline.

Re: Giants auditioning Taschner?
At this stage, we should even be considering unloading productive veterans if the return is high enough (cf. Jack Morris). As I look around, the case where what we have to offer seems to fit a clear need is Vizquel to Boston, much as I would miss watching (or rather hearing since I participate mostly via Gameday) Dreamy in the field.

Re: Giants auditioning Taschner?
The Giants should never have re-signed Kline.  He didn't pitch nearly as well last season as his ERA indicated, and one would have hoped the Giants were smart enough to see that.

As for Porcello, they say it will take around $8 million to sign him.  I would do it in an instant.  I think he's that good.

Certainly young pitchers come with significant question marks, but if Porcello turns out to be as good as I think he might, he may earn somewhere between a quarter and a half billion dollars.  If that is the case, the $8 million to sign him will appear to be a great bargain.

Re: Giants auditioning Taschner?
I know you think he's good, but quarter to half a billion... REALLY?

Roger Clemens over his entire career hasn't broken $200M, if I'm not mistaken.  Considering someone better than Zito will get a better than Zito contract, its still rather impossible to get anywhere near a quarter million.  The first half of a pitcher's career (maybe even more, depending on injuries) is under the control of one team and an arbiter.  That doesn't leave much time to make up the remaining ground.

To compare, Roy Oswalt (5 years of service) had accumulated only $21M before he signed his big 5-year extension worth between 73 to 89 million dollars.  That would push his total up to just over $100M after 10 years.  How many years would he have left in him at that point?  He'd already be 34.  Another "benchmark" could be Dontrell Willis, who will have hardly accumulated $12M after this season (his fourth).

Inflation is ridiculous in today's FA market, but it's highly unlikely a pitcher will make much more than 1/4 of a billion (let alone 1/2) over his career.

Re: Giants auditioning Taschner?
if sabean trades any of the young pitching....any of it...i dont care who it is...he needs to go with them

a fire sale is dumping your high priced vets...not packaging the kids with them

Re: Giants auditioning Taschner?
I'd agree, but if one of the cheap young pitchers helps bring in a cheap young bat, I'd see the logic.
Klesko's numbers just keep going up! (.318/.405/.488 as of 6/14/07)
