The topic of letting Matt Morris go to a pitching starved team at the deadline seems to be somewhat popular idea on this blog, I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents
The conceivable contenders for playoff spots right now seem to be:
Red Sox, Yankees, Indians, Tigers, Twins, Angels, Mariners, A's, Mets, Braves, Phillies, Brewers, Cubs, Cardinals, Dodgers, D'Backs, Padres
take off the teams that already have enough pitching, and would more likely go after a bat.
Red Sox, Yankees, Indians, Angels, A's, Brewers, Cubs, Dodgers, Padres
then take off the teams that have nothing to offer, or no logical trades involving Morris:
Tigers, Mariners, Phillies, D'Backs
That leaves you with:
Twins, Mets, Braves, Cardinals
Due to the Twins and Braves history and budget, I wouldn't see them making a big deal for an SP like Morris, and the Cardinals probably won't make a run soon, and if they did, they could only offer the Giants more pitching. so here are the likely scenarios
Lastings Milledge and a young reliever for Morris
Dont like that, Milledge seems to be damaged goods, although he has been playing pretty well at AAA.
SS Wilson Batista (blocked by Reyes) and OF Ben Johnson for Morris
maybe thats a deal?
Its idiotic to predict trades, but I'm bored... have at it.
