Re: Lincecum & the kids
I get it.

The more Timmy feels like he's a Fresno Grizzly and not a San Francisco Giant, the closer he'll approach those glorious unhittable salad days in Fresno.

This is not Boch short-changing The Boy; this is a masterful managerial gambit.  Viva Guillermo, Nate, and Kevin!

(btw, any of you see Guillermo's Gameday picture? Swear to god, he looks like he's pushing 60.)

Sounds about right
Always interesting to see how Bochy loads the line-up up with consecutive LHH/RHH. Maybe the opposing manager likes this.

Would love to see some splash action from Nate. Franny at SS - get lots of Ks Lincy. Maybe GRod can get his first ML hits today.

Re: Lincecum & the kids
Kind of a weird look, isn't it? But Molina and Bonds need their rest, Aurilia is injured, and Vizquel is clearly dragging at the plate. And we're not facing Frank Thomas, Vernon Wells or Lyle Overbay today so it's clearly a fair fight.

Do your thing, Timmy, and we'll find a way to scratch out a few runs.

It must be brutal to be an athlete or any sort of celebrity in the Internet era, as any little mistake or rumor is commented on instantly and widely. This isn't to say that Lincecum didn't pitch bad, but rather that just because information flow has sped up doesn't mean decisions need to be made quicker than they were in the past. Very few players in general, whether hitters or pitchers, dominate right away. Timmy just needs more time and many more starts, and fortunately the team is struggling enough anyway that it's a good year for him to get this...

Just in case anybody wants to analyze Lincecum's game-by-game:

He's in a tough stretch, but for some perspective, look at the good starts. They're impressive. Cain "hit a wall" last year, and he's been great ever since. Even this year, Cain's crappy W/L record belies a wonderful and generally consistent performance.

Re: Open Gameday Thread, 6/13
This is kinda interesting from the Jays' radio broadcast (and because the game has lost its interest):

Alan Ashby is the color guy and, apropos of Verlander's no-hitter, during the last inning they were talking about the three no-hitters Ashby caught, and at some point he sort of clammed up when asked what sort of mementos he kept from them. "I had my three gloves from those games. But, uh, they've all been stolen."

"What, from your house?"

"Uh, yeah."

"Ya know, Jack Morris said that the one time he left the alarm off at his house he came home and his world series ring was gone. And there's strike three."

"Yeah, well, I think I know the guy who might've taken my gloves..." [commercial break music swallows the rest].

Sad story to break up a depressing game.
