I was at the game on Tuesday, that Benitez blew. I completely sympathize with Grant on wanting some money from Mando for wasting 4 hours of my life. Mostly because I paid $84 for two tickets at the worst park in the National League (yes, it's worse than RFK). Well, since I was there, I think I got to see something that most people did not when Armando was walking off the field in shame. I saw the final posting of the radar gun.
The Connecticut-bound flight that Delgado cleared for take off was hit off an 85 MPH fastball. 85! Of course it was launched! Hell, 80% of our readers can throw an 85 MPH fastball right down the dick.
My first thought was that it was a splitter and the person inputting the types of pitches just couldn't tell the difference between the two, but I don't think that's the case. His velocity was decreasing with every batter. That, AND I went home and watched the replay and the pitch had plenty of back spin, indicating that it was indeed a fast ball.
So my concern is this: "Why the hell is Armando throwing 85 MPH Fastballs?"
There was talk of his knee being messed up or something... Ok, so why is he closing the game? Is there more to this story of Mando throwing BP fastballs to deadly left-handed hitters late in the game? Or is this story really as boring and soul-crushing as it appears?
