SI cover story about Giants fans

Well, kind of, its about San Francisco's opinion on Bonds.  At first glance i did the usual "ANOTHER story about barry bonds!! I am so tired of this crap every...single...other...day..and so on" when i first picked it up (as Bonds was on the cover).  When i read the article though, I thought it kind of gave a good connotation about Giants fans.  Did anyone else happen to read this and agree with the author's opinion on the city.  The whole article I thought was trying to defend the city of national opinion that Giants's fans are mutant devil creatures who cheer blantantly for Bonds even though he takes steroids everyday. I thought it was pretty good.  So how did everyone else feel about it as i dont live in the city so i would not know if this article is true or not.

Re: SI cover story about Giants fans
I have the issue but have only skimmed through the article. It kinda annoyed me that they  cherry-picked quotes from the fans that were negative and positive quotes from Giants related personnel. But from your assessment, I'm glad it was positive.

Re: SI cover story about Giants fans
"It is warm, way too warm for spring in San Francisco. At seven in the evening in May, it's 70-something and sunny, like some Al Gore nightmare come to life. People arrive at AT&T Park suspicious of the weather, in jeans and a sweatshirt, fleece and khakis, as if this were the old Candlestick and winter might descend in a moment.

Oh god, and it goes on like that for at least one out of nine pages without saying anything worthwhile. I wish I could comment on the question at hand, but that kind of superfluous, extravagant sportswriting is beyond my ability to tolerate.

"... like some Al Gore nightmare come to life."??? Oh, god that's bad.

Re: SI cover story about Giants fans

Re: SI cover story about Giants fans
No, you're absolutely right. It is far, far better than the usual tripe. Just, way too prosaic for my tastes.

I believe the proper term you're looking for is fluff...and not in the porno variety.

Slightly OT: Scoop is anti Rocket.....sort of
Page 2 on ESPN.COM
Scoop Jackson calls out the Media for not jumping on the Rocket for holding baseball hostage.  This and the SI piece, man, what is the world coming to?

Agreeing with Scoop Jackson isn't really a good thing.

I never said I agreed with anything specific that he said. I meant that I am happy there is at least some negative press for the jerk-off fest that has become Roger Clemens.

Re: SI cover story about Giants fans
"I'll see you in Boston, when they play the Red Sox, and I just hope that Curt Schilling is on the mound and has to pitch to Barry!" [Willie] Brown cackles. "I want Barry not to hit a home run but to hit the ball so hard that Schilling can't get out of the way."

Nice.

"Just another ahahahaha... laugher."

You've got to love Li'l Willie. My favorite was when he called Elvis Grbac a "dusgrace to the city of S.F." after a bad game against Dallas.
