ProTrade Quotes on Lincecum

Check out these quotes from the recent article on SFGiants.com's front page.

"The stats and the scouts concur on Lincecum like they rarely do," says PROTRADE research analyst Lucas Ruprecht. "There's simply no one currently in the minors who can match his stuff. In fact, I'm not sure there's been any pitcher in the last decade that could compete with his arsenal."

"He has nothing left to prove," states PROTRADE's Brian Mead. "Pitching prospects might be as elusive as a white whale. But Tim Lincecum can't be considered a pitching prospect after what we've seen."

Mead continues: "No, this is clearly a good Major League pitcher who's just spinning his wheels in Triple-A until his team can bring him up. The impact he's going to have will be mind-blowing and immediate."

Re: ProTrade Quotes on Lincecum
We're taking "beating a dead horse" into a new level (I don't want to think about what that looks like), but come on......

Is there ANY doubt that he would not be immediately successful in the majors?  I mean how many more runs would he save over Ortiz, Morris or Lowry?  How many wins?  If we want to win, he should be pitching now.

Re: ProTrade Quotes on Lincecum
If we want to win, we need a power hitter. Lincecum cant drive in Bonds after he is IBB for the rest of the season.

Yeah but can he walk on water?
I have not been this excited about a Giants prospect since Matt Williams and that was 20 years ago. Lincecum is going to light up The City for years to come.

On that note
I used to have a Matt Williams minor league baseball card, mint condish. What the hell's wrong with me for selling that, along with a few binders of others, for, like, nothing (at my mom's insistance when I was a teenager)????

Tim has been called "The Future" and "The Franchise."  Now, "The Light?"  :)

This is getting ridiculous
That's my only thought right now. Total and complete ridiculosity.

I gotta great idea
Lincecum has a rubber arm. We can use him as a starter and a closer! Go with a 6 man rotation. He can start every 6th day. With 4 games between starts, he can close when Cain and Morris start, days 2 and 3. Let Benitez have other days.

C'mon! Who's with me on this?

Free Tim Lincecum.

Re: I gotta great idea
I hate math, tho. 5 days between starts, he can close for Ortiz also.

With his arm, he can probably even relieve himself.

Re: I gotta great idea
I like your creativity, and Tim would almost certainly be able to adapt.  All he wants to do it to PITCH.  But I'm not sure how the other pitchers would adapt to the six-man rotation, especially when there was a day off.

And while I think Tim could close on the day he would throw in the bullpen even in a FIVE-man rotation, I don't think it would be reasonable for him to close on two of the days, especially two in a row.

If Tim relieved, he could darn near pitch every day as long as his pitch count was very limited.  But I think his best value is as a starter, one who could probably eventually lead the league in innings pitched and could quickly lead it in strikeouts.

Tim would seem to have the potential to lead the league in fewest hits per nine, in WHIP, in ERA, in strikeouts, in complete games, in shutouts and in wins.  And possibly all in the same season!

His pitching coach must be picking up
a lot of new clients. Here you have a small frame body pitching without injury and with great velocity. His father is soon to become the baseball Butch Harmon.

Is it common for him to be marked Inactive? Cause he was marked Inactive as of yesterday.

Re: ProTrade Quotes on Lincecum
I can guarentee that he won't have an ERA under 1.0 if he gets 100 innings in this year.

How's that for dissapointment?

Re: Letdown
We'll see. I'm also worried that the reality can't possibly live up to the hype, but then again, I've seen him pitch, and he truly is in a different league than the minor leaguers he was facing.

I'm not expecting the next Marichal. I really am not. I'm expecting something wonderful and unique.

if anyone misinterprets that as a marichal slight
it's not. I just meant I'm expecting Lincecum to do his own thing. Marichal was obviously wonderful and unique.

True. I suppose it's only fair to expect 10 no hitters, not 15.

My new favorite thing about Lincecum
he's clearly not on 'roids. I mean, he's a little dinky straw of a man.

bring Lincecum up
I know Sabean has this love affair with veteran players, but even he can't be that stupid to think Russ Ortiz is a better option than Lincecum. Or is he?

Re: bring Lincecum up
Russ has proven big game experience. Does Timmah have big game experience? Well? Does he?

Re: bring Lincecum up
Tim definitely has big-game experience.  Every game he pitches is a big game.
