Schmidt v. Suppan

In the spirit of this week's rash conclusions on how the entire season is going to play out based on the performances of the last 48 hours, there's an interesting game on tonight in Milwaukee, as two potential members of this year's Giants rotation are squaring off. I'm just south of the Monterey County line in SLO County, and am therefore relegated to Dodger telecasts, which isn't so bad on a night like tonight. Through four innings, Schmidt has hit 90 on the gun two times, with all other fastballs being in the mid-80s/Zito range. And while his offspeed stuff has looked pretty good, the Brewers are starting to get to him. Suppan is still Suppan.

Re: Schmidt v. Suppan
Prince Fielder just popped out with the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the 5th. Still 2-1 Dodgers, but Schmidthead has thrown a lot of pitches, and I think the Brew crew will come back in this one!

Re: Schmidt v. Suppan
he walked the bases loaded before that popup, which brought back memories of the recent vintage Schmidt that made us Giant fans shed no tears over his exit. I have to admit that the pitch to Hardy looked like strike three though. Fielder seems to have problems with Schmidt, I remember him striking him out in a big spot last year when he was tiring in the ninth.

Re: Schmidt v. Suppan
Not only did he walk the bases loaded, but he did it with two outs and Suppan at the plate.
For just pennies a day, you too can make a difference in the life of a Giants player...like Kevin Correia.

Re: Schmidt v. Suppan
Schmidt pulled after five innings and nearly 100 pitches. He may end up getting the win if the bullpen holds it, but not an impressive performance.

Funny I was watching the game thinking the same
Here in LA watching the Dodgers game and pondering the Schmidt vs Suppan in Black and Orange thought.  While Schmidt has "sat" ar 85-88mph most of the evening (hitting 90 only once or twice) he has pitched effectively.  In his last inning, the 5th, he labored after getting the first two outs.  LA should pray he can gain velocity on his pitches.  You are definitely correct about Suppan being Suppan.

Re: Schmidt v. Suppan
16th and Bryant - that sucks about the broadcasts.  That location is probably closer to SF than LA, and can't be worse than halfway.  You should be able to get Giants broadcasts there!

Re: Schmidt v. Suppan
Sucks indeed...it's a three hour drive to SF, a four and a half hour drive to LA. 50% longer, 100% more frustrating. To compound this oddity, we can tune in to FSBA and watch all the Santa Clara v. USF basketball games and beach volleyball matches we can stand, but once the Giants game starts...blackness. Noooooooo!

I lived down there for 6 years and I feel ya man.  I mean does Vin Scully walk around saying that Cal Poly is the Harvard of the West?
