Ask Larry Baer

So last night, I happened to be coming back from the Oakland Airport on BART at the same time the late-leavers from the Warriors game were doing the same.  I ended up sitting next to Larry Baer and his family.

Aside from a "Hey Larry" and a nod, I opted out of badgering him with a bunch of Giants questions.  After all, my wife was with me and she was barely tolerating me carrying on with drunken Warrior fans.

If I had decided to talk, I might have asked what the plans were for Barry next year.  Or why can't they get another slugger to fill the Kent/Alou/Burks void.  Or if he agrees with Sabean's "Dump the #1 draft picks" strategy.

In the end, I decided he wasn't going to say anything worthy of annoying the wife.

What would you have liked to ask?

I would have asked
"Larry Bear, when are you going to fix the spelling of your last name?"

A second, related question:

"Being a bear, do you feel any kind of special connection to the Fresno Grizzlies, and, if so, what are your thoughts on Tim Lincecum?"

Re: I would have asked
Would he then be able to explain how Bear can be driving?
Strikeouts are boring. Besides that, they're fascist. Not boring: Emmanuel Burriss. Not fascist: SF Dugout

There's plenty of Muni lines that take you to the bear bars in the Castro.

"Hey , Larry...some clown in Phoenix has no idea what your connection is with the Giants. And he says he's a fan! Can you believe it?"

Re: Ask Larry Baer
"So does it take the collapse of the maze to get you on BART, or have you ridden this before?"

Actually, I joke but you don't see the locally rich and sorta famous on mass transit usually.  I did see Bob Sarlatte on Muni recently, though.  Not that I know if he is rich and famous, but I'm pretty sure he will mc a corporate event.  He might even contribute on this site.

You are correct, sir!  He has also been spotted at Joxer Daly's in West Portal.

Re: t-t-tap!
I had to sit in front of him at a Giinats game once.  Dear lord, the man never shut up and he thought everything he said was hilarious.  Very much a guy who loved the sound of his own voice.

I'll give him credit though, he did have a bit part in "So I Married An Axe Murderer", which was a good movie.  (Not because of him.)

Re: t-t-tap!
Actually, my wife was pretty appalled that when Larry's wife tried to have a conversation with one of their sons over literature, Larry interrupted and brought it back to sports.

I met Kruke and Kuip on a subway in Montreal before. You never know when a Giant will pop up on mass transit.

TK's point about the 'Schoolhouse Rock'
In an aside last year, TK (I think) said that whenever she hears the name "Larry Baer," she thinks about the Schoolhouse Rock cartoon about adjectives:  "He was a hairy bear; he was a Larry Baer."  I would ask him if he gets a lot of that, and what he thinks of when he hears "TK."

It wasn't me, but I'd love to hear what he thought when he hears "TK" anyway.
