The Next Nathan
Seems like every time I happen to see a Cincinnati boxscore this spring, Jon Coutlangus has tossed a scoreless inning. Lately, it's been a scoreless last inning. Who's your nominee for the former Giant farmhand or scrub who will emerge to haunt us this year?

Carlos Villanueva: He was one of the two low-minor league relievers used to acquire Wayne Franklin and Leo Estrella in 2004. He had a 3.69 ERA in 53 IP for the Brewers last season.

Re: The Next Nathan
Nathan's name didn't come up at all.
I'd share, but I'm running a business over there!

At least, I assume they're the best stories. The ones with the best teasers, anyhow...

When I said that it was mildly annoying that something claimed to be "free" but wasn't, what I really meant was "Workers of the world, destroy the bourgeois pigs who grow fat off your labor! Property is theft! Smash the system of oppression and suffing!"
I hope that's now cleared up.

The ARCHIVE of stories is free to see, so you know what stories are there.
The Stories, however.....nah, gotta pay.
Seriously, do you know how much it cost to bribe people for this? I had to pay Baron no less than $500 just to go!

Re: The Next Nathan
Hopefully Magowan re-sings him as a free agent in 2008.
The next Joe Nathan? Salomon Torres has turned into a dominant reliever for the Pirates. Giants could use ole' Torres right about now.
Jason Schmidt vs. Matt Morris. Hmmm... where should the G.M. have allocated those funds? Jason could come back to haunt the Giants. For this Season, Jason Schmidt costs $500,000 less than Dave Roberts ($5m) + Pedro Feliz ($5.1m) + Sweeney ($900,000).
Sabean is in a fucking slump. The Giants should have Schmidt in the rotation, more AB's going to Linden & Klesko, and those three crappy contracts off the books. Dave Roberts and Bengie Molina in 2009 will not be pretty.
Re: The Next Nathan
I'm totally fine with how that one went.

Though really, who needs more young good starting pitchers?
Re: The Next Nathan
That Boof fella
Bonser has a 2.86 ERA and a 24/4 K/BB ratio in 22 innings, giving the Twins some reason for optimism that they could have a second above average starter in their rotation.

Re: The Next Nathan
I'll say it now, the next Nathan is Jesse Foppert.
Both were moderately successful starters in the minors, and who had some troubles in the majors as starters.
Both missed significant time due to injury and TJ Surgery.
Both produced significantly worse in the minors immediately upon their return.
If Nathan gets his mechanics back in whack, I could see him going to relief and learning to burn the other team there.
Just sayin'.
