Trades: Florida gets Julio for Petit

Looks like the Marlins are out of the Benitez race, as they get Julio from the Diamondbacks for Petit.  I'm not entirely sure how this affects the D-backs.  At best it gives them a slightly better 5th starter while losing a reliever who saved some games last year.

In other news, the Dodgers get Brady Clark from the Brewers for Elmer Dessens.  This is as a replacement for Jason Repko, who got injured.

Re: Trades: Florida gets Julio for Petit
Pretty good deal for the Dodgers, Clark is in his element as a fourth outfielder and Repko was replacement-level anyway.

Re: Trades: Florida gets Julio for Petit
Player for player it's a good deal, because Elmer DeFudd is a bum, but why do the Dodgers keep on stockpiling veteran outfielders when they have so many talented kids?? Colletti is proving to be even worse than Sabean is with his love for veterans, because Sabean doesn't have kids like Loney, Kemp, and Ethier ready to play in the big leagues.

Re: Trades: Florida gets Julio for Petit
Yeah, it's certainly not a good thing (well, it's a good thing for us) if Clark is taking at-bats away from Kemp. I hadn't really considered the possibility that he would be higher on the depth chart.

Re: Trades: Florida gets Julio for Petit
And the chances of Mando beggining the year as our closer just went up significantly...

Re: Trades: Florida gets Julio for Petit
I'm sorry we've lost our best opportunity to dump Benitez, but I'm pretty happy that Julio is out of the division. I know he's never really put it together, but he struck out 12 per nine innings last year! There aren't a lot of guys who can do that.

Re: Trades: Florida gets Julio for Petit
Mets got some bad news today:

"The MRI on Duaner Sanchez's shoulder showed a small fracture in the area. He'll need surgery to insert a screw, and he's expected to miss at least three or four months."

They would probably never take Mando back in NY.

Re: Trades: Florida gets Julio for Petit
They'd take Mo Vaughn before they'd take Benitez again. And, yeah, to close.

Re: Trades: Florida gets Julio for Petit
Good initial analysis by the Mets in this case. Sanchez was told that the "pop" he had heard while warming up was good because it was adhesions breaking. Turned out to be his arm breaking!!

So, Who is going to start the Benitez Fan Club web site? Where's the love?

Re: Trades: Florida gets Julio for Petit
Benitez bailed out the bullpen today, as Correia and Kline tried their best to blow the game. When Benitez said "who else they got?" when asked if he wasn't going to be the closer, he was correct.
