Announced on KNBR....

Jon Miller re-upped for a six-year deal. Excellent, excellent news. Even if the long-term future doesn't look great -- you know, like in 1996 -- at least Miller will make the games worth listening to.

People who don't like Miller are the kinds of people who don't like Casablanca or The Beatles: societal mistakes that should be cleansed from the planet. If you wish to have more information about these philosophies, please subscribe to my newsletter.

SWEET. This totally makes my day. Miller was the reason I liked the Giants in the first place.

Great.
But since the Flem is still in his arbitration years shouldn't we lock him up long term too?

Re: Announced on KNBR....
I've got this "friend" who thinks that Miller gets whiny, smug and irrational when the Giants are playing poorly. My friend does as well, of course... most of us fans do, yet he still finds it exceedingly annoying and has to turn the radio off when Miller gets worked up. This same friend would listen faithfully to Hank Greenwald or Mike Krukow through a 12-1 loss during an eight-game losing streak.

This friend must admit, however, that during a big game when a team is playing well, no one is better than Jon Miller. And he's praying that the 2007 Giants give Miller a chance to do what he does best.

Re: Announced on KNBR....
The Giants have the best group of announcers in the business with Kruk, Kuip and Jon Miller. You pretty much know that Kruk and Kuip will be there forever, so it's good to see Jon Miller get locked up as well. Nothing better than a post game show on the radio after a Giant win when they get all giddy.

So true, Rex.
And the mood-enhancing drug they share is determined by Miller, and dispensed by Big Jon's personality.

He's like a Bottle of Bubbly for that crew when all is well with the world after a Giant come-from-behind, How'd-We-Do-Dat victory.

Re: Announced on KNBR....
Miller is one of the great ones. We're lucky. He and Flem are outstanding together.

As for the ESPN gig, am I the only one who notices that Miller sometimes -- subtly -- pokes fun at Joe Morgan? It's not my imagination, is it?

Re: Announced on KNBR....
heheh. Not at all. But he does it good naturedly. Everybody likes to pick on Joe, but I like him. He is the next best thing to Yogi Berra and Casey Stengal. Sometimes it is the best part of the broadcast. Especially when Joe goes off on some tangent.

Re: Announced on KNBR....
Yeah, Joe says really intelligent things like
"[K zone] shows that the ball was over the middle of the plate, but that was inside."

Huh? Or try this exchange.

In other words, Joe Morgan is a total idiot. Sometimes I worry that he has a negative effect on Jon Miller which causes Miller to lose brain cells just by having to listen to Joe spew nonsense about baseball for 3 hours a week.

Of course Joe did author this appropriately titled book, so I could be wrong.

We'd be pretty good if we didn't suck so bad.

Yeah, but what do we do when we find out that Miller injects baboon urine into his larnyx to create the dulcet tone of his voice?  Baboon urine being illegal, of course, in every radio booth in the country.

Re: Announced on KNBR....
I don't like Black and White movies. Bogie was short. Bacall was stuck up. The special effects sucked. Any movie with French soldiers is a farce. All that was needed was Inspector Clousseau.

Grade: Overrated.

I've always hated the Beatles since they first showed up on The Ed Sullivan show and about 1 million skanky girls feinted. The only thing the Beatles accomplished, was to push the no-talent, moronic future drug addict Elvis "Body-by-Mando" Pressley off the top of the charts.

Grade: Overrated

Besides, Grant is too young to remember this stuff when it first came out. You've been brainwashed by Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, and Gavin Newsom.

Jon Miller. Six Year Contract.

Grade: Underrated

I still miss Russ Hodges.  And if somebody comes across my mind please mail it back to me. Reward.

Link For Those Who Think The Beatles Kinda Sucked
http://www.scaruffi.com/vol1/beatles.html

This elitist Italian guy, basically a rock snob.  He goes off for thousands and thousands of words, some of which even ring true.

For myself, I think it's pretty apparent that Sgt. Pepper's waaaay overrated, and that Abbey Road is the spuzz all the way through.

Re: Link For Those Who Think The Beatles Kinda Suc
Revolver and almost everything produced thereafter is some of the best rock music ever written.  I was a Beatles hater for many years, mostly due to the sappiness and pop appeal of everything they recorded before this album.

Please, if you're a Beatles detractor, just give Revolver a spin.  I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Oh yeah, the White Album kicks ass, too.

I'll say Sgt. Pepper is overrated..
Only because I don't think it's the best album ever made, least the best album the Beatles ever made.  It's probably behind Abbey Road, The White Album, and Revolver.

If you'd only listened to The Beatles from Rubber Soul and before then put Revolver on, the first track alone would surprise you.

Best personnel move the Giants have made in a while.

For what its worth, my dad makes a decent case against Miller, says he thinks he's the attraction on a radio broadcast (he also dislikes Costas and Michaels).  Some people just want to hear the game announced.
