Barry Bonds Forever...

...or at least for a few more years.  Apparently Bonds now never wants to retire.  So expect this offseason's drama to repeat next year, I guess.

I, for one, think he should play as long as he wants to and is capable.  I really don't think he'll be with the Giants in 2008, though.

Re: Barry Bonds Forever...
My prediction: Andruw Jones, Torii Hunter, or Ichiro will be wearing the orange and black in 2008. Bonds signs a Frank Thomas-esque 2 yr/$20m deal to DH for the Angels or Mariners.

Bonds will retire in 2010 with 787 homers, and be elected to the HOF five years later, first ballot, after the steroids hysteria has long been forgotten (or at least waned).

Re: Barry Bonds Forever...
I agree that Barry should play as long as he wants and is capable and that after 2007 he will be a DH in the AL somewhere.  I think Barry will end 2007 with 760 to 775 HRS and if he plays both 2008 and 2009 he will retire with more then 800 career HRs.

Who knows, maybe as a DH Barry can play until he is 50 ala Julio Franco if Julio plays next year.  Then Barry would actually have a shot at 1000 career HRs since he will not turn 50 until 2014!

Re: Barry Bonds Forever...
I'd like to see Barry play as long as he likes, but I agree the likelihood of him playing for the Giants in 2008 is almost zero. If he goes to the AL and plays a DH he can get his 3,000th hit, something his has almost no chance of this year, and retire with every major career milestone one can ask for.

Re: Barry Bonds Forever...
Barry's looking to be around when Cain, Lincecum, and Sanchez hit their peak. Smart man.

We can rebuild him we have the technology
Either management brings Lee Majors on board as a coach or Timmeh Time can share some of his alien cyborg magical powers to keep Lamar going.

C'mon, you guys, we're talking about Barry Bonds. Since when do we take seriously anything he says about his future plans?

After a Deep Think, here's my controversial stance
Man, I'm going out on a limb on this one --

I say Bonds should play as long as he wants to, as long as he is capable.

(And, inspiring gasps of disbelief, I will also say the same about every other guy in MLB, including ball dudes and hot dog salesmen.)

Re: After a Deep Think, here's my controversial st
Let me go even further out on a limb and suggest that Barry saying now that he intends to play in 2008 doesn't mean that he will want to do so when 2008 rolls around, whether he is capable or not.

Re: After a Deep Think, here's my controversial st
Neverthless; he heretofore declares a possible interest in being capable of continuing his career. If the desire is there at what will be referred to "at the present time", and so forth.
