Finley signs with Colorado

Steve Finley has signed with the Colorado Rockies.

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Rockies added Steve Finley to their outfield mix on Saturday afternoon, signing him to a Minor League contract to compete for a backup job.
Finley, who will turn 42 on March 12 and has played in 18 Major League seasons, has 303 home runs and 320 career stolen bases, and is one of six players in history to surpass 300 in those categories.

Last season, Finley hit .246 with six home runs and 40 RBIs in 139 games as the Giants' primary center fielder. Willy Taveras is the Rockies' projected starter in center and erstwhile starter Cory Sullivan is competing for playing time....

Re: Finley signs with Colorado
Did anyone tell him about the humidor?

That's why he went
Finley will be placed nightly in the humidor, to prevent any further rusting.

Re: That's why he went
Is it just me or Mogggeeeeee kind of funny?

Re: That's why he went
He's even better on Open Gameday Threads -- which is to say, 3 hours and 9 innings of comic relief; even with Fleas in the line up.

Victor Frankenstein will say something that is so disjointed and completely off the wall, even I can't understand it. Mog-EEEEEEEEEEEE steps right in and interprets.

Now whether that intrepretation is correct or not is besides the point.

Mogg, will you be here all week?  You gotta try the veal!

So, what's the over/under on how many HR's Finley will hit against SF this year?

Mighty Casey would have taken Armando Benitez deep.

Two over Barry's head...
And three under Linden's glove.

Re: Finley signs with Colorado
Well, it figured.  Colorado is the only NL West Team Steve has never played for.

Primary centerfielder? I guess that's the Glass Legs/Pee Hands effect for you...

Kinda goes a long way to showing why we sucked.

I own my own business and I'm a giants fan; being a Giants fan is harder.

Re: Finley signs with Colorado
Finley is my least favorite Giants of all time. And that includes edgardo Alfatso and Benitez!

You haven't been 'round long have you?  Remember Ponson, Ledee, "Dirty" Sanchez, and Felix Rodriguez.  Come on man, expand a bit will you.

Finley was only my second least favorite Giants of 2006.

Re: Finley signs with Colorado
Finley was my least favorite Diamondback/Dodger of 2004. In 2006, he was my favorite "I can put up with him for a year because he's not Alfonso" player on the Giants.

Bhakon was my second least favorite Giants fan.

Sayhey,
We can go back to hating each other now!

Haven't had time to check the splits; how am I doing in 2006 when a left-handed pitcher is on the mound?

Re: Finley signs with Colorado
I am all for Finley as a great Giant.  He is solely the reason Edgar Alfatso wasn't on this team last year, and that is enough for me.

I'd rather have seen Alfonzo DFA'd than traded for a guy bad enough to make you tear your hair out but not quite worthless enough to get rid of.

And yet whiney enough to wrangle his way into 139 games. I mean, for Christ's Sake.

You call it "whiney".  I call it "veteran savvy".

Re: Finley signs with Colorado
No, I wish complete health on Steve Finley for 2007 and 162 starts. That would be the worst thing that could happen to the Rockies.

Worse than handing Willy Taveras 700 plate appearances?
