Fave Giant

Heading into spring training I'm curious as to people's current favorite players. There's limited spots for the poll, so I couldn't include everyone, but I think I have the guys who will get the most votes. If I left off your man, go with the last option.

Poll
Favorite Giant?
That other guy named Barry
3 votes
Dreamy
15 votes
Richie
4 votes
Cain
22 votes
Lowry
10 votes
Lincecum
14 votes

1 votes
The guy who's locker held the speed Barry accidentally took
1 votes
Someone Poe didn't think lots of people would vote for
5 votes
Barry Lamar Bonds

Re: Fave Giant
I'm sold on Frannie.  I guess I've got a weak spot for overachievers.

Re: My top 5 Current Giants
Tied for #1: Cain and the Enchanter

Tied for #3: Linden and Frannie

#5: Omar Vizquel

Honorable Mention: Eliezer Alfonzo (his 2006 was so cool), Barry Zito (too rich to make my list), Mike Matheny (doesn't play anymore- a technicality)

I own my own business and I'm a giants fan; being a Giants fan is harder.

Re: Fave Giant
Bonds. Until he is no longer a Giant, this will be the case.

When that happens, though, Cain, Lowry, and Lincecum will have to battle it out against each other in some elaborate exercise in electronic simulation (like the Madden Bowl). The winner takes my unquestioned affection.

Re: Fave Giant
And speaking of Cain and Lincecum, it's sometimes easy to forget just how phenomenal Matt Cain is when we have a guy like the missing Linc in our system.

I think of things like the fact that Cain is 3.5 months younger than Lincecum, and has been pitching at a major league level for what will be close to two years by the time Linc even touches the mound in the a big league game, and just drool. Matt Cain will still be younger than many major league rookies, even in his third full year at the show...

Sorry, I need some paper towels here.

For the drool! Geez, you buncha pervs.

Not that age means much, necessarily, but in the midst of all this losing I still feel like one hell of a lucky fan to be able to see these two guys at the beginnings of their careers. (and Bonds at the end of his, but that's another matter altogether)

Re: Fave Giant
Ditto. Cain's next on my list after Barry, but I've always like Ray Durham as well. On the all time list, Marvin Bernard, Will Clark, and Robb Nenn are present as well.

Kevin Frandsen, without a doubt. Richie second.

Re: Fave Giant
The number of people who voted for Bonds versus the number of people who wanted to say out loud that Bonds is their fave probably shouldn't be surprising to me, but it is.

Then again, not a lot of people have said anything, so this probably does mean very little after all.

Re: Fave Giant
I'm the type of person who has to have an admiration for the guy's personality for him for to be my favorite player.  (When they layed, Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken were my favroite players.)  Therefore, my favorite Giants is Omar!

My love might fall short of Kenshin's, but the mad skills and fun that he brings to the game is a joy to watch.  Things like joining the grounds crew in San Diego or the barrell roll out of the dugout are examples of a guy who appears to realize he's making a great living playing a child's game and it should be fun for him, his teammates and the fans.

My 2nd choice would be Ray Ray for the same types of things that he brings to the game.

Re: Fave Giant
It's hard to pick one, but J. Sanchez is my current favorite.  After that, there's Omar, Richie, Barry, Barry, Ray-Ray, Matt, Noah...

Hmmm... when you start listing those names, this is a more likeable team than I would have thought. I'd gladly trade "likeable" for "dominant," but still...

When it comes right down to it, I had to pick Bonds. There's nobody on the Giants who I'd rather watch play baseball.

Even playing dominoes, Barry is Must-See
Absolutely. Bonds is more interesting to watch -- even if he were pacing around a prison cell -- than the rest of the guys in a scrum on the mound after winning the World Series.

Re: Fave Giant
Definitely Cain. I followed him closely in the minors (he was the first prospect I really made a point of following) and I went to his first career start. So, I've grown kind of attached. It's fun to watch a homegrown player develop and succeed for your favorite team.

Re: Fave Giant
Tim Lincecum is my favorite Giant because he's a good kid who is highly likely soon to become the Giants best player.  He was scheduled to face actual batters today for the first time this spring training.  Let the excitement begin!

Re: Fave Giant
Not too familiar with many of those guys' personalities, which I find important (thus Bonds isn't close to the top), so I'm going to have to go with Zito.

It appears people have different criteria for their "favorite Giant".
