I just saw that. Thank god that I don't have to hear about that anymore.
Remind me to tell you about the time my mom wore her rhinestone penis T-shirt to dinner and Grandma had her car towed.

Finally. Now we get to see him play some of the worst LF in existence.

I think you must have meant to post this comment in the "Ryan Klesko finally signed the contract" thread.

I'd disagree.
He may look bad on some balls, but I don't think as many as people think.  He'll be slower this year yes, but his positioning and instincts are still great.  Many a time last year I saw a ball hit off the bat towards left field thinking "oh boy, extra bases there."  Yet Bonds just strolled over there and made the catch because he was positioned there.  His studying of other players and his own pitchers and how they will pitch in certain situations is one of the best in the game.  He just knows the game better than almost anyone.

Re: I'd disagree.
Exactly.  Bonds has long had very solid technique in his outfield defense.  Where he lacks is outfield range (due to age) and throwing arm (never had it).  But his footwork, his routes, and the quickness of his release make up for some of his flaws.

He's certainly not the human vacuum that he was 15 years ago.  Neither is he a disaster.  Yet.

Re: I'd disagree.
And I think he'll be even a little faster than he was most last year. His knees, I believe, feel a lot better, and it's not the sprinting that gives him all the trouble. It's the stopping... and the fat (hopefully not the fat this year, though).

But his defense is fine. I don't know why anybody ever worries about his defense.

Exactly. Despite what many think, he is NOT Adam Dunn out there.

Re: I'd disagree.
defense is a highly overrated aspect of the game anyway. while he probably cost us a handful of runs because of his defense last year, spread out over the course of 162 games, it is barely noticeable. What he provides offensively is much more valuable to the team even with his declining defensive ability.

I won't believe this contract has actually been signed until every last member of the McCovenenant receives a faxed copy. Major League Baseball will probably void it because it's in the wrong-sized font.

don't worry. You'll be able to read all of the details in the NY Post tomorrow after the contract details are leaked from the MLB league office.

...the former Ohio secretary of state has voided the contract because it wasn't printed on 80-pound bond paper.

Jefferson, thanks for the diary title! I think I use that quote at least once a week at work.
