Re: Giants' Rule-5 Picks
That sucks... I was kinda starting to regard Blackley as a "maybe if he can pick it back up" prospect.  And his start that one time last season wasn't too shabby either.

Re: Giants' Rule-5 Picks
 Born: July 18, 1986
San Francisco de Mac., DR
Height: 6-2
Weight: 215
Bats: Left
Throws: Left
Drafted: Not drafted
How Acquired: International Free Agent (July 2003)

Selected by San Francisco in the Rule 5 Draft (Dec. 2007) Scouting Report: Capellan works with an arsenal of three pitches that he mixes in well.  His fastball sits around 89-91 mph which moves away from righties and in on lefties.  Doesn't get enough swings-and-misses with his fastball, but he does have good command to paint corners.  His mid-70s curveball has plus-potential with a nice bite, but Capellan still needs to perfect his command of the pitch.  The curve is his best pitch, and he uses it to get out of jams very well.  Variations of his curve can also get up to the mid 80s with slurve-type movement.  His changeup sits around 78-79 mph and is average to above average.  Capellan's 3/4 delivery is fairly smooth and repeatable.  As a lefty, he has a quick sidearm pickoff move to first base.  Great clubhouse guy, mature and intimidating mound presence.  Good focus.  Needs to work on keeping his weight down

2004 DSL Red Sox pitcher of the year.
Great clubhouse guy, needs to keep his weight down?
I can see the food court fights with Molina already! Replace Kline now!

Re: Giants' Rule-5 Picks
Great clubhouse guy?? He's a 21 year old kid who will be in the clubhouse with a bunch of old farts. I doubt he'll be either seen or heard.

Re: Giants' Rule-5 Picks
I'm disappointed at losing Bateman...he was also a personal favorite, if not a huge talent.

But Capellan is an interesting talent.  If there's anything the Giants scouting can be counted on, it's finding underappreciated pitchers.

Ciriaco seems like filler to replace any departing middle infielders from Fresno.

SS Juan Ciriaco (Padres)
I know Capellan was selected in the major leauge portion of the draft, but what portion was Ciriaco selected in?

Re: Giants' Rule-5 Picks
The burning question: did anyone adopt Bateman and Blackley?  If so, they have first options on the newest Giants.

Re: Giants' Rule-5 Picks
are we going to revisit the adoption thing at any time?? I'm souring on Randy Messenger after his poor finish to the season. I'm one of those parents who wash my hands of my kids after they screw up. Ask my real son, young Mr. what's his name. And I doubt too many adoptive fathers are going to be happy if their child is traded and they might not want the replacement. I would think whoever has Tim Lincecum would not want to embrace Alex Rios if that disgusting trade is actually made.

Re: Giants' Rule-5 Picks
I adopted Tim Lincecum, and if the Giants trade him, I'll not likely adopt another.

What is this, the Pedro Feliz "feel good about your numbers because they're better than this guys" Pick?

I think it's more the...
"Oh crap we lost Ochoa, de la Rosa, and Bergolla we need infielders for AAA even if it's just filler.
