'86 was a very good year...

'85 was the worst year for those of us old enough to regard Jack Clark as their favorite all-time Giant, but '86 brought me back just when I was about to give up for good. "How 'bout them kids!" and "Humm Baby" were on t-shirts everywhere. Will, Robby, The Tin Man & The Hack-Man got the Giants back over .500 and everyone just knew it was just the beginning.

This is what this year needs to be like. Keep it simple and let the kids play. Take it in the shorts for a year.

Do something small to fill the 3b void until Villalona gets here like Lowry, Hennessey, and maybe Marcus Sanders to the Rockies for Stewart and Fuentes. Trade Durham to someone for a sippy-cup and let Velez play second.

Let's see what Schierholtz, Ortmeier, Velez, and Stewart could come up with...

Re: '86 was a very good year...
I agree with this, but I think Sabean's first priority is keeping his job.  He's one of the longest tenured GM's in baseball, right?  That means he's smart enough to know how to keep his bosses happy, and that's with revenue.

I'm pretty sure he's not going to sit back and let the kids play because the average fan is not going to be happy to watch a losing team.  He has to do something to show the fans that the Giants could possibly be competitive (like Zito last offseason).  Remember all of the misguided hope last offseason?  I think the Zito move accounted for a lot of that.

As much as I'd like to see Schierholz, Frandsen, Sanchez, and maybe Ortmeier get a chance to show what they can do, I'm pretty sure Sabean is going to have to make some kind of splash this offseason to keep the fanbase happy.

If you are saying that we should sign Will Clark out of retirement to play 1B and bat 3rd, then I think it's a far site better than most of the rumors bouncing around.

If you're trying to compare the current batch of prospects to Clark and company, not so much.

Fool me seven times, shame on you. Fool me eight or more times, shame on me.

I bet the Thrill would hit better than the current line-up we have.

All kidding aside, I'd like to give the kids an opportunity to fight for a job.
