Why you keep Lincecanium
OK, I decided there weren't enough Diaries on this issue, so I made my own.
It makes no sense for the Giants to trade either Lincecum or Cain (barring some ridiculous deal).
a) any such deal is highly unlikely to turn SF into a 2008 or even 2009 contender
b) Their trade value will likely RISE in 2008 if they put up solid numbers in MLB (even on a poor team)

Or maybe they did the smart thing and just put in a bunch of shots of the park.

I really like that their beer was cheaper, though.

The problem wit having 2345465762542455778 diaries that are discussing the same general topic is that some posters/commenters/readers feel like they have to post the same post on ALL of the threads to be heard (i.e. the One Flap Down comment about Will Carrol's chat tidbits). Now not only are we having diaries that are essentially discussing the same thing, we have the same comment being posted across each of those diaries.

Re: Why you keep Lincecanium
that should be in about 10 years
Re: Why you keep Lincecanium
Dylan (SF): I've seen you write that Tim Lincecum is a "freak" before. I think it mainly refers to the fact that his mechanics are so odd that his longevity and chances of injury are completely unpredictable. Does this mean that you would trade him to the Jays straight up for Alex Rios? To me, the Jays have to add a reasonably talented pitcher to the equation.
Will Carroll: No, he's just a straight freak.
There is no single pitcher that I would trade straight up for Lincecum. There are very, very few players that I would take straight up for him and the ones I would are guys like Cabrera, Pujols, Reyes ...
... so yes, I like Tim Lincecum and would be willing to say that the Giants should never trade him.
Rob (Oakland): Will, Re: Lincecum - If he's the centerpiece of a trade that could net three postion players (I like Votto, Encarnacion & Hamilton), the Giants would have to deal, right?
Will Carroll: No, especially not for that package. Votto can't force himself into the Reds lineup, Hamilton's had about 200 ABs in four years (tho he's phenomenally talented), and Encarnacion is a good-not-great 3B. You'd trade an ace for that?
John Paul (Manch Vegas, CT): Heyman was just on Mike and the Mad Dog saying the Giants would rather trade Tim Lincecum rather than Matt Cain and are actually considering this Rios for Lincecum swap. On what planet are the Giants brass living, and please tell me the Giants aren't THAT stupid- and I'm not even a Giant fan.
Will Carroll: Heyman has great info -- does anyone have a better mix of writers than SI right now? -- and yeah, I believe that. If Brian Sabean does that deal, well, he deserves the results. Right now the Giants seem to be determined to shed all talent. Compare what the Nats have to what the Giants have right now and tell me which you prefer.
So at least we aren't the only ones who place a high value on Tim. I was worried we were all being homers for a second.

Re: Why you keep Lincecanium
You can sign an Alex Rios clone pretty cheaply (hint: his last name is Jones and he spells his first name funny), but when you try to sign an ace pitcher, you end up with an Albatross more often than not.
