Just a note from the (free) part of BP:

Scene: Cal Ripken, Steve Finley and Jim Leyritz are sitting on a couch in the Opryland hotel.

Observer: "All that's missing is Brian Sabean and a pen."

OK, I laughed. But it was the laugh of the damned. Other reactions? Or good Sabean jokes?

Unfortunately, my source has left the building. My last report is old...(mid October) and relatively unrevealing. Noah was the prime trading chip being dangled, and the players targeted were unexciting to me (Theriot and Fontenot) or unlikely to get it done (C. Pena). The most amusing thing I learned was that the Yankees had filed a tampering claim vis a vis A-Rod because of the Giants' behavior toward him during the All-Star festivities.
