1989 NLCS highlights on youtube

I have been looking for this forever.  My dad and I were at this game, sitting around 20-30 rows behind home.  We were actually sitting with the Giants' families.  Will Clark's little brother was sitting a couple rows in front of us, and Kevin Mitchell's grandma was a row behind us.  My favorite sports memory ever.

Roped right up the middle. Love it, Clark will always be my favorite Giant.

It's great to know moments like available so easily. I'm going to need clips like that over the upcoming years so I don't forget what it's like. I've already forgot what it's like to see a hit with RISP, not just a pop-out to second.

Re: 1989 NLCS highlights on youtube
That was awesome. Will Clark was one of the most exciting players to ever play the game. Even on a statistical level, his career OBP and SLG are very impressive. It's weird that he didn't end up what a lot of people would consider "HOF caliber".

Re: 1989 NLCS highlights on youtube
Probably because he didn't hit many DINGERS in the middle of the steroid era. I was sad when he didn't even get the 5% needed to say on the ballot. Clark never topped 35 HR's in a season and averaged 23 per season for his career, by today those numbers might look a little pedestrian but he always sported a high BA (over .300 hitter in his career) and a very nice batting eye (career OBP of .384).

He also ended his career a little early, he could have probably played a few more years to pad his stats, he would have at least had 300 HR's. His last season in 2000 was pretty damned good, (.319/.418/.546) for a OPS+ of 144. I'm sure the Giants would kill for those numbers out of first base these days, as would a lot of other teams.

The last great first baseman that played for the Giants.

And then... oh, nevermind.

Anyways, I'm amused that the fans there were making fun of the Cubs' losing tradition...

Re: 1989 NLCS highlights on youtube
I was in the back row, lower deck, third base side (nice and shady...brrrr) on the aisle, and once the last out of Game Five was recorded, after hugging my dad, I turned and hugged a guy standing in the aisle who looked like he may have driven to the game in a used van full of body parts. Ah, the power of baseball to bring us together.

Re: 1989 NLCS highlights on youtube
That was great. They also have Bedrock getting the final out on Sandberg to send the Giants to the series. I used to love when the Giants won the game and they would play that Fox movie theme after the third out. Those were the days. It was a shame about the earthquake that year and the fact that the World Series was never played. At least that's how I remember that season!!

Re: 1989 NLCS highlights on youtube
Wow! What a weak call from Vin! "A breaking ball hit to Robby Thompson... and that's it." I thought Buck's call at the end of the 2002 NLCS was bad.

I wasn't much for Greenwald's call - 28 years of frustration are over... (or what ever it was) - but man, these guys are supposed to be professionals (even Hall of Famers). Maybe if Sandburg had popped up a Farmer John hotdog we could have got something a little more memorable.

Oooh, I just got chills again, like I did the first time I saw it on television. What a wonderful year - until the Series.
