Under the radar moves ...
Would like to identify a few players that the Giants should target. This is intended to identify some underrated, lesser known players ... not big free agents or unrealistic trade candidates.
My list starts with:
Dan Johnson (oak) 1b ... trade candidate
Xavier Nady (pit) 1b/of ... trade candidate
Andy Marte (cle) 3b ... trade candidate
Justin Huber (kc) 1b ... trade candidate
Brian Barton (cle) of ... rule 5 draft pick
Kendry Moralez (laa) 1b ... trade candidate
Scott Thorman (atl) 1b ... trade candidate
Alberto Callaspo (arz) 2b ... trade candidate
Dallas Mcpherson (laa) 3b ... trade candidate
additional guys?
Im trying to identify guys that, for various reasons, need another opportunity with another big league club.

Re: Under the radar moves ...
At this point, the Giants should strive to get your so called "mediocrity" because they aren't even going to be mediocre in 2008.
The whole point of this post was maybe low-key, low-buy moves that could be made, and Nady would be a decent one. With Pittsburgh in transition, they could look to trade away guys like Nady.

And, if they cannot do so within the next few days, according to one official with direct knowledge of their plans, they are considering non-tendering him before the Dec. 12 deadline to offer salary arbitration. That would allow him to become a free agent.

Re: Under the radar moves ...
Nady should be pretty inexpensive, seeing as he made less than $3M last year.

Plays 3B, but apparently he's not the best defender there, but he also plays 1B and has caught a little... I think he plugs into the lineup next year at all three positions.
Kendry Morales looks interesting... but I'm not too big on Andy Marte or Brian Barton. I think we already have a few Brian Barton's, and I don't think the ceiling is very high on Marte. Unless you compare him to what we've got....
