Threets=control?

From rotoworld about Erik Threets winter ball play:

Erick Threets - LHP Giants
1-2, 1.69 ERA, 15 H, 20/8 K/BB in 21 1/3 IP

Threets could overtake Steve Kline or Jack Taschner for a bullpen spot in spring training if his command holds up. He walked 35 in 54 2/3 innings for Triple-A Fresno last season.

It would be great if he has finally turned the corner and really cut down on the walks.

Re: Threets=control?
Andy Baggarly seemed to think Threets still had potential, based on his (Andy's) BA chat. I do think Erik's days of 100mph are over, but if he turns out to be a serviceable lefty out of the pen, that would be better than Joe Roselli, Kurt Ainsworth, or Jason Grilli.
The SF Giants: agressively promoting young talent since 2008.

Re: Threets=control?
I actually thought Threets stuff looked pretty good during his brief call up this part year. His fastball was in the mid-90's and he was showing a nice changeup. I wouldn't object to him starting the year in the bullpen over Taschner.

Re: Threets=control?
I was just thinking that when I heard about BA praising Threets. Looks like he's adapting since he learned he no longer can throw as hard as he can and get by. He's smart.
Democracy is lovely but baseball is more mature. BVCE supports Manny Burriss and SF Dugout.

Whatever
Threets is the classic example of a guy who I refuse to get excited about again until he can prove something over a legitimate sample size.  35 BBs in 50 innings in Fresno is awful and a decent, not great, 20 IP in Winter ball against younger competition doesn't get me all that fired up.

I will say that him not being Jack Tascher is a a plus, though.

Re: Threets=control?
BA rated Threets changeup as best in organization?  WTF?

Re: Threets=control?
Taschner = right hander that just happens to pitch from the left side.

Threets = secks.

Pedro Feliz: Marginally better this year.

Here's to Kemp, Loney, LaRoche, Hu, and Kershaw not panning out.

only 75 batters faced and 10+% BB rate..
..but it is a much-improved line.

Age        BB/PA    K/PA    BABIP    GB%
23    AA    16%    18%    .342
24    AAA    16%    18%    .266    58%
25    AAA    15%    17%    .275    55%
25    Wint    11%    24%    .229    64%

An 11% BB/PA is adequate at best, and a .200s BABIP screams 'luck', but a 65% groundball rate is quite nice, as is a 25% strikeout rate.

Never discount a lefty reliever, but I'll be excited when he cuts his walks another 5%.
