Gonzo?

Why in the hell would we need him?  I'd rather have Barry again than a guy 2 years younger with way less production.  It also says the Dodgers like Feliz.  He'd be a fun ex-Giant-turned-Dodger to boo next year...

This has been mentioned before. As you can see from the post, it mentions that Jerry Crasnick reported it on Dec 5. I doubt it will actually happen anyway.

Re: Gonzo?
This only really bothered me because it seems to fit the Sabean mold of players who play well against us, pass us up for another team, then sign with us when they totally suck.

See: Steve Finley

On the other hand, I like me some Ned signing Feliz.

Re: Gonzo?
I wouldn't boo Pedro.  It's not his fault Sabean couldn't keep a decent lineup together to allow him to bat further down the lineup where he belongs.  Not unless he proclaims he's been carrying a torch for the bums all along like Jaaaaaayyyy-sonnn did.

Re: Gonzo?
Absolutely agree.  Only when he badmouths the Giants after putting on his crappy blue uni will I boo him.  Otherwise, I'll remain faithfully a non-hater of Pedro.

True.  I will not "boo" Pedro any more than any other Dodger.  I liked Pedro as a dude.

I did like the Honest Abe beard he sported towards the end of last year. But that's about it.

Re: +1
I dunno, I liked his fairly consistent ability to put a cripple ptich into the LF bleachers - unlike, say, pop=it-up, foul-it-off Ray-Ray. The problem with Pedro was geting enough cripple pitches. He just faced to many wild pitchers - guys who couldn't hit the strike zone, but always threw one into the dirt.

Re: +1
I think that, against Feliz, they were trying to throw it in the dirt because they know he swings at those.

Re: Gonzo?
did you all forget how many rallies pedro killed by hitting into double plays and striking out?  he was awful at the plate.  i hope and pray he signs with th blue boys.what was his obp? .240?

Re: Gonzo?
Totally agree with You. Boo Kent, boo Jason. Both of those guys left town and felt the need to throw egg at the Giants on the way out.

Pedro might be THE OBP black hole, but everything I saw from the guy deserves a slap on the back and an "Atta Boy"! He played everyday. He played hard. It sucks that he couldn't get on base and it sucks that he was a rally killer, but c'mon. If You think that deserves a hearty boo at the park once he's gone, that's a little messed up.

I'm glad he's not a Giant any longer, but when he comes back to town in different colors, I will give him a cheer.

I'm surprised that the Giants are interested in a player like Gonzo in light of his youth and inexperience.

Re: Gonzo?
Why not sign Gonzalez?  I'd love to have that pus-arm out in LF for 150 games in '08.  And while you're at it, see if you can track down Dante Bichette's agent and see if the slugger is available.

Giants Lineup: 8 OFs, 1 pitcher
do the Giants even consider trying to get a 3b or 1b at all? It sure doesn't sound like it.

Re: Giants Lineup: 8 OFs, 1 pitcher
Is there anything in the rules that states we actually have to play corner infielders? Couldn't we just go with a 5-man outfield instead? 'Cause we've got plenty of those on the hook, or at least we will after Sabean's done wheeling and dealing...

In 2003...
There was 2 OFs and the Inner and Outer outfield.

In 2008...

5 OFs and Vizquel and Durham.  Inner and Outer infield.

Re: Gonzo?
kind of a waste... OF is the one thing that's relatively set; I know we don't have anyone good, let alone great out there, but IF is definitely more of a priority right now... Also, compleeeeeeeeetly OT, but with D-Train and Cabrera gone, does that make Benitez the highest paid player on the Marlins?  If so, haha...

Re: Gonzo?
I think that Benitez is a free agent. Don't get any ideas Sabean.

Re: Gonzo?
No, because I remember I was damn near crapping my pants over the fact that he had one more year after 07 right after he had that whole walk-bunt-balk-balk-walkoff homer fiasco in new york that one time right before he got traded.

by boonitez on Dec 10, 2007 4:35 PM PST up reply actions

Re: Gonzo?
We signed him to a three year deal right? The first year he got hurt, the second year he sucked, the third year he got traded. So I think he is a free agent.

The highest paid player on the Marlins is catcher Miguel Olivo at 2 million dollars, and the Marlins are going to non tender him. I've heard their total payroll next year will be about 10 million dollars.
