AFL wrapup on rotoworld

http://rotoworld.com/content/features/column.aspx?sport=MLB&columnid=2&articleid=29553&p g=3

Nothing too mind-blowing or in-depth than some of the more knowledgeable people here on the minor leaguers, but Pouliot has a nice write up on 6 of our guys in the AFL.

Romo and Anderson seem like they are strikingly similar prospects.

Sounds like the Giants minor league management has made some head scratching moves.
"I'd take pleasure in gutting you boy" Oh and ignore the spelling. I do.....

Great movie, DG!
"What's wrong with these people, Mason? Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome. We're stuck on an island with a bunch of violence-for-pleasure-seeking marines. Well screw them."

Northeast fans probably won't like the last part of the Nick Pereira analysis.

And since when did Nate get so shaky defensively in the OF? You've got wonder about some of these reports.

Re: AFL wrapup on rotoworld
They also hate Nate because he never walks OMG.
Democracy is lovely but baseball is more mature. BVCE supports Manny Burriss and SF Dugout.

His ISO-OBP was .027 this year.
Pretty sure that would have put him in last place in the majors this year for OF, and that's assuming he still walks at the same rate (now you could argue that he saw the ball so well against minor leaguers his walk rate was so low, but I doubt that stays in the majors).

To be fair if he's gonna walk like that in the majors, unless he hits like Ichiro or ISO's like Chris Young this year, he's not gonna be all that useful.

Re: AFL wrapup on rotoworld
I've read a few reports questioning his defense in the outfield. Good arm, shaky routes -- something like that.

Re: AFL wrapup on rotoworld
I always thought he caught the ball kinda goofy, like he catches it really close to his body, it's weird.

Re: AFL wrapup on rotoworld
It also says he has 'limited speed.'  From what I saw of him last year, he was pretty sneaky fast.  He put pressure on the IF and almost had an inside-the-park HR to triples alley.  He definitely has above average speed.
Thank God that's over.

Re: AFL wrapup on rotoworld
I love Nate, but even I'd say he has (at best) average speed.  I don't know if I'd call that as limited, though.

What he does have is an uncanny sense of how to use his speed.  Nate watches pitchers like a hawk... in all honesty, he reminds me a lot of Barry in his later years.  Barry's speed was amazingly bad his final years with us...Bonds was caught once in 22 stolen base attempts since 2003, a 95.4% success rate; three times in 33 attempts since 2002, a 90.9% success rate.

And it's not just at that age; since 1996, he was caught 30 times in 204 attempts, an 85.2% rate...still excellent.

Nate will never be a burner, but he finds a way to be a threat, and not a liability, on the basepaths.

I wouldn't say limited speed.  He certainly pushes any limits he has with his intelligence.

Re: AFL wrapup on rotoworld
You must have forgotten about Nate's first day game in the majors, Lyle. Remember him playing two or three fly ball outs into doubles and triples against, I think Colorado?
My boy ain't fat, he's just big boned. Big bat, too.
