I Was Wrong!
The vast majority of you were right. The Giants will never be any good again as long as the brain dead Brian Sabean remains the GM. Brain wants to re-sign the worst half of the worse hitting infield in major league baseball.
"Sabean said the team was already in discussions about a one-year deal with a vesting option for free-agent shortstop Omar Vizquel, and was interested in re-signing third baseman Pedro Feliz."

So damn soon???
Feliz back without even a decent search for possibilities?
FFFSSSSBBQ.
I was not
I also have no problem with upgrading either Roberts or Winn, if that can be done with someone with some power. I'm for giving Davis, Lewis, and Schierholtz a shot to see who works out best for the remaining position. It would be a mistake to just hand two of the outfield jobs to any combination of these three.
Hey rainman
Sorry for jumping into your diary for this, too. Not trying to hijack.

Re: I Was Wrong!
To me, this is the most significant tidbit I get from the article. I hate when people say "literally" when what they are saying is anything but.
"Baron Davis is literally on fire." after he drains three straight baskets. No. No, he is NOT literally on fire. If he were, we'd be screaming in horror as we ran to find the nearest 10# ABC portable fire extinguisher.
The Giants would be FIGURATIVELY hamstrung...financially speaking. Sorry if you feel like I've wasted your time by tricking you into reading this relatively insignificant post, but it's a pet-peeve of mine.
I'm literally pissed. There is urine on me.
Not to start another grammar/usage thread, but...
Sorry there's urine on you, though. I hope the donor was literally hot. (Meaning very desirable, not actually elevated in temperature.)

Re: I Was Wrong!
Giants general manager Brian Sabean reiterated his desire to re-sign shortstop Omar Vizquel, a potential free agent. But Sabean indicated that Vizquel, 40, wants more than a one-year contract.
"We're not prepared to do that," Sabean said.
Sabean added that talks with third baseman Pedro Feliz, who already has filed for free agency, have proceeded slowly because the seven-year veteran changed agents. The Giants have exclusive negotiating rights with Vizquel and Feliz through Nov. 12.
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/11/01/SPHFT4PLH.DTL&type=sports
While Bonds said last week his Giants career might not be over and that, "There's still time. Things might change," Sabean had a one-word response to the possibility of the team changing its stance: "no."
Meantime, Sabean is trying to re-sign the Giants who occupied both of A-Rod's positions, Omar Vizquel, who at 40 remained a Gold Glove-caliber shortstop, and third baseman Pedro Feliz.
Negotiations have begun with Vizquel's agent, Adam Katz, who's seeking a two-year deal while the Giants prefer one year. Feliz, who has changed agents (Mike Arias to the Levinson brothers, Sam and Seth), seems more willing to let the free-agent process play out.

One More Reason To Sign ARod
Re: One More Reason To Sign ARod
All the money it would take to sign ARod would mean that Sabean has nothing left to spend on players like Vizquel, Feliz, and Sean Casey.
Now that's an interesting strategy. Not a successful one, but interesting :-)
