What team would you like to see in '08?

So, if you were the GM, how would you rebuild the organization next year. Free agents and trades are okay, but try to stay in the realm of realism.

Starting Rotation

  1. Tim Lincecum
  2. Matt Cain
  3. Barry Zito
  4. Jonathan Sanchez
  5. Kevin Correia
Bullpen
  1. Brian Wilson
  2. Brad Hennessey
  3. Jack Taschner
  4. Randy Messenger
  5. Billy Sadler
  6. Patrick Misch
Defense
C Jeff Clement (from Seattle for Noah Lowry and Dan Ortmeier)
1B Cheap free agent signing or trade
2B Ray Durham
3B Kevin Frandsen
SS Omar Vizquel (one year deal if a trade can't be worked out)
LF Barry Bonds (one year deal, hey, you said it was our team)
CF Fred Lewis vs. righties, Rajai Davis vs. lefties
RF Nate Schierholtz

Bench
C Elezier Alfonzo
CIF Rich Aurilia
MIF Tomas De la Rosa
OF Rajai Davis/Fred Lewis
OF Dave Roberts

Gone
Randy Winn and Bengie Molina, traded for prospects or a ML-ready infielder, first base preferable.
Brian Sabean

This is a bad team, to be sure, but the presence of Bonds prevents it from being historically bad and doesn't keep any promising players out of the lineup. Some of the random bullpen arms can be replaced with dumpster diving reclamation projects but any contract in excess of $1 million handed out to a free agent reliever would be stupid in my opinion.

Oh, and, the "hey, you said it was our team" doesn't make any sense because I copied and pasted this from my entry somewhere else, so just disregard it.

Clearly, A-rod = A-Hitler at least for the ability of his name to kill threads.

Re: What team would you like to see in '08?
For 1B, how does Brad Wilkerson sound on a one-year make good deal?  He hasn't played there at all since he's been on Texas, but he did play there 25 times in '05 and 86 times in '04, making 4 errors in 765 chances.  I'm just going off those numbers and I have no idea how good he is at 1B using advanced fielding statistics that are way above my head, but I think it would be safe to say he would be at least average.

His OBP from the four seasons before Texas were .351, .374, .380, .370, so maybe he bounces back.  Even last year which wasn't that great at all his OPS was .786, light years ahead of Klesko/Aurilia.

Don't throw balls, grow balls. Pitch to Barry.

Re: What team would you like to see in '08?
I like your squad, however I would make a few changes.  I don't want to see Messenger or Taschner in the bullpen.  Sabes already said he was going to address the bullpen via free agency or trades so hopefully things will improve.  I would like to see him sign a Japanese reliever or two and take a chance on someone like Dotel in hopes of trading him at the deadline. (No 3yr deals to relievers)

I would love to see them take a flier on Sexson.  There is no long term commitment involved and if he turns it around we can trade him or get a draft pick.  If he continues to flounder, Sabes can at least say he tried to acquire a power bat.  Dump Durham and play Franny at second.  I would take anyone other than Feliz at 3rd, maybe Ensberg or someone through trade.

Boy there is a lot of work to do.

I'd really love to see The Team in 2008. That would be pretty cool.

Re: What team would you like to see in '08?
Whatever happened to Jeremy Reed?  I thought he was supposed to be the next great center fielder.  Does he fit our criteria of down on his luck former super prospect that we could get cheap?  Is he worth a look?

The Rockies. I'd like to see the Rockies some time in 2008.
The SF Giants: agressively promoting young talent since 2008.

Re: What team would you like to see in '08?
I think I'm alone on this one, but I wouldn't mind Torii in center.  I think since he seems to hit the ball hella hard, he could hit 30 homers, even in ATT and would rake on day games

Re: What team would you like to see in '08?
I think we could probably pry either Adam Jones or Wladimir Balentien from the Ms along with Richie Sexson for Lowry, and if we threw in maybe Brad Hennesey and Randy Messenger or sombody, we could get them to eat a good amount of his salary.
Or, we could give Lowry over to the Pirates along with maybe Nate Scheiholtz for Jason Bay.  If we got Bay, we'd have a really affordable star player, and we'd also be able to afford A-rod.

Re: What team would you like to see in '08?
I'm not so sure we could get Jones or Balentien + Sexson for just Lowry.  I would be surprised if they'd trade one of the young guys for Lowry with out Sexson.  All for it though

I will throw up all over the god damned place if Lowry is traded for any of these suggestions.

Re: What team would you like to see in '08?
If Brian Sabean had the chance to trade Noah Lowry for Adam Jones and let it slip away, he should be fired.

Of course, he never should have been re-hired in the first place.  :)

Still pondering Magowan's mystery move
Sabean stinks the joint up for nigh on a thousand days and nights, and gets a two-year extension.

What if he had produced a World Series champion this year? How is Sabean rewarded in such a case?

25% of the franchise?
