I'm Cleveland Indians fan, LGT member and frequent reader of the McCoveryChronicles. I recently put up a post on LGT inspired by Grant's post on his 'white whale'. Not surprisingly, Lincecum and Cain popped up as a couple of choices. I recognize that both those guys are essentially untradeable, but what do you think it would take for us to get one of those guys from you?
Here are what I think are some realistic constraints/ considerations on any possible trade....
Sizemore, Martinez, Hafner and Carmona would not be traded under any circumstances (yes, its not lost on me that Lincecum is just as untouchable for the Giants).
The Indians wouldn't want to trade away too much young pitching because Carmona seems like the only player who can be penciled into their rotation for the next 3-4 years.
C.C Sabthia would have to be a part of the equation. He wouldn't necessarily have to go to the Giants, but he could go to someone like the Mets or Dodgers (the loser of the Santana trading game). Maybe they could trade for some position talent that the Giants would be interested in? Its worth noting that C.C Sabathia is a Bay Area native and said that he'd like to play there sometime during his career. I realize that Zito's contract makes C.C an impossible signing for the Giants, but he's 27 and coming off a Cy Young caliber season (and also had a 3.22 ERA last year as well) in the American league.
Sorry if it seems like I'm hijacking your blog. I just thought that this was a fun topic and am curious about a Giants perspective. The Indians and Giants seem like ideal trading partners. We can't develop pitchers. You guys have had trouble with developing position players. Anyway, I hope some of you find this intriguing enough to speculate about a potential trade with Cleveland.
