FanFest Autographs?

as the mayor said earlier, the fanfest pretty much sucked. sure they had the right players, booths, and such but no organization. the autograph lines were outrageous, i ended up waiting around 3 hours for Fred Lewis and Erick Threets while i hear Zito and Cain were at a table with 2 other players! so i was wondering if any of you actually had a good experience with getting autographs/or meeting a player.

Re: FanFest Autographs?
All the players left @ 3, and I was near the front of the line watching the clock slowly tick towards inevitable left-in-front-of-line doom.

Luckily, the players stayed past 3:05, and I got Jon Miller, Dave Roberts, Patrick Misch, and Scott Munter.

I was a nervous wreck in front of Dave, and managed to babble out a thank you, and then after two more people signed, I adoisajda'd "can I shake your hand?" He was cool though, and has the most readable signature out of the 4 that I got.

Shouldn't that be, "I'm always thinking one step ahead"?

Re: FanFest Autographs?
I was quoting Andy Bernard from The Office, but I misquoted him.

Thanks for the catch

Re: FanFest Autographs?
I knew I saw Munter there but I wondered why he was there.

Re: FanFest Autographs?
I heard there was Lowry, Cain, Zito, and Bochy in my line, but I ended up with Sadler, Taschner, and Aurilia. Still a good group, but disappointing that I only got three. I saw the line for Roberts, Munter, and Lefebrreelajsoijcl but decided to pass.

Little help please.
Even going back as a kid I don't think I even wanted an autograph, and I know I never even asked for, somebody's autograph. I don't mean this as a troll, I'm just curious.

I think I can understand an autographed picture or signed artwork, or keeping a letter, note, invitation or other keepsake But a signature from a stranger for signature's sake, is something I really do not understand.

If you are into collecting autographs, do you collect anything else?  Anything outside of baseball? Or just sports stuff?

What do you do with autographs after you get them? Do you put them in a scrap book?  Do you have an autograph book that you keep them in?

My autographs from SJ...
Were all on display on my wall until I took down my holder.  It was something my dad custom made for my Jay Canizaro bat that had a place for trophy's on top and balls on the bottom.
Here's to a good 2007. Or 2008. Or 2009. Or 2010. Or...

Re: Little help please.
Only autograph I have is one from Cal Ripken on a ball...got it myself at my first ever big league game.  Sucker is in a safe deposit box for eternity.

What I don't understand is buying something with an autograph on it.  The whole point of having an autograph is that you can brag to everyone that you met so and so.  But to by something already signed...just don't understand that.

Re: Little help please.
Growing up in Redwood City, I got Joe Morgan's autograph at the old Bob Hoskin's Locker Room and realized, at the age of 15 or so, that I was almost as tall as he was. (I haven't gotten that much taller since!). I also got most of the first 49er Super Bowl team (the best part was getting Joe Montana's autograph when it was still legible, and not the "Joe Mvxvngbt" that he signs now, as well as Shawn Weatherly's (former Miss Universe and ex-GF of Dwight Clark) signature. Somewhere else I have OJ's autograph that a friend got for me when he was planning to kill...I mean, when he was with the 49ers. That was pretty much it. Somewhere along the line I lost interest in autographs, with the exception of meeting Jay Leno once.

Now, when I meet someone with some level of fame, it's personally more rewarding to just shake hands and thank them for their (music, playing ability, etc.) and have that interaction rather than, "Hey, can you sign this? I'm a big fan." I really do think that the memorabilia market and the eBay generation also made it all lose its luster. It truly isn't like the old days.
