Re: 2006 Giants MVP
Though if there could be two, I'd have voted for #1 and #8.

Re: 2006 Giants MVP
I voted for Vizquel III because really, it was a tossup between I and III and I flipped a coin, but an option that can be known as VizII in any explicit way should unfortunately lose all votes by association.

Re: 2006 Giants MVP
Reason: First fold) that first half, during which Vizquel pulled his weight admirably. Second fold) Defense, which hasn't been bad but which also isn't saving countless runs, versus Omar who has been stunning as usual with the glove.
The team did seem to pick it up when Durham caught fire, but I can't really say that if Durham had been great in the first half and Vizquel caught fire in the second half it wouldn't have picked the team up in the same way. Two guys playing great ball will always help a team more than one guy playing great ball, so while I agree with you that Durham's impact in the second half has done quite a lot to carry the team forward and makes an extremely compelling argument for his MVP vote (which I see is currently the popular vote, even compounding the Vizquel votes), I'm not quite convinced enough that his impact was not aided by Omar's continued brilliance to the point where it stands alone against both his dismal first half and Omar's time defying career year.

Re: 2006 Giants MVP
For the record, though: Bonds has 444 PA, Durham has 500. Closer than I would have thought. In those PA, Bonds has a .988 OPS; Durham, .911. OPS also undervalues OBP, where Bonds has a .457 to .367 edge. Durham's SLG is only .013 higher than Bonds. Durham has 17 GIDP compared to Bonds's 8. They both have 23 HR.
Let's see how they do over the final 18 games. Bonds is still the best player on the Giants, and he has been heating up lately. Despite his limited number of games (117 so far), he may prove himself to be the MVP after all.

My Giant MVP Vote
- Bonds
- Durham
- Vizquel
- Schmidt
If we were voting for the 2nd half, Cain and Stanton would have to get a lot of MVP recognition.

Re: 2006 Giants MVP
I'm convinced that some of Bonds' recent resurgance is because Durham is a threat hitting behind him.
