Rooting for whom?

So the heart says root for the Reds.  The head says root against the Reds(I can't actually root for the Dogs)....

Re: Rooting for whom?
That's an easy one (even aside from the genetically engineered hatred of the color blue)

Root for the Reds.

There are fewer teams in the NL West race, and the only downside is that we are farther behind. I prefer our chances of outplaying the three other teams in the division race as opposed to the rest of the NL (so it seems) for the Wild Card.

Besides, I like the sound of the "2006 NL West Champions", even though it will probably be less of an accomplishment.

I appreciate the fact that proper grammar has been observed vis-a-vis the thread title.

Anyway, go Reds, what with the Richie and all, and being out of the NL West.

To me, there's no choice.  Go Reds, beat LA.  Go Richie go!

Re: Rooting for whom?
Heart says - Duck the Fodgers, go Reds!
Head says - You said it, brother!

Wild card definitely looks trickier to play for. 3 teams ahead of the Giants and 3 more within 2 games.  And, of the teams within 2 (Reds, Padres, Phils, Giants), only the Phillies have finished their season series against all the other 3. So if the Phils stay hot, there's no head-to-head opportunities to cool them off. The Phils do still have a bunch of games against Houston, Atlanta and Florida, all of whom may still harbor illusions that they're in the race, but the 3 other top WC teams have no control.

Re: Rooting for whom?
A sweep of the Dodgers would be awesome.

Anyone getting in a serious "if only" mode now that the Giants have clawed their way back into it?  I keep saying to myself, "Goofus, why couldn't the Giants merely have split those six games on the road in DC and Pittsburgh?

And being 1-5 over the last six games against the Dodgers is just killing me.

Other-worldly
Being 1-5 against the Dodgers has already killed me. I'm speaking from the other side.

Re: Rooting for whom?
Split, man. Split. Too early to give up too much ground anywhere, and the Pads ahead of us in both races makes it especially tricky. I say two out of three, doesn't matter which, just no sweeps. Keep it close, and let 85 wins be good enough to take one or the other.

Re: Rooting for whom?
I think the only thing we can say right now with any degree of certainty is that the outcome of the Reds/Dodgers series will affect who and how we root afterward.

The Padres and Reds play each other six times still and that'll be REALLY interesting, too.

Re: Rooting for whom?
Root for the title not the consolation. Go Reds. Its Manifest Destiny, Giants must take the West.

I am a true Giants fan, cannot root for the Dodgers.  Want to win division rather than wild card.

Well, Dodgers won
Our good friend Brett Tomko did his very best to let the Reds win, but he wasn't left in long enough. I'd say he was a Giants secret agent sent to sabotage the Dodgers, except he never did much for the Giants when he was here.

The Reds should have won, but let themselves down with even more bad fielding, and incredibly unclutch batting. One moment encapsulated it all. With the Reds down by 1, with 2 on and 2 out in the ninth, Brandon Phillips took the first three pitches - all strikes - to end the game. It was passivity Magellan can only dream about.

BP, like Ice Cube...
...says "It was a good day." Losses to Cinci, Philly and San Diego outweigh wins by L.A. and Arizona, and our playoff probability ticks up from 16.5% to 17.3%.

Re: BP, like Ice Cube...
Picking up .8% without even playing...not bad. If the Giants could just not play for the rest of the season, they might just back into the wild card.

I can't believe we're under .500 and just a game and a half out of the WC. The Red Sox must be so pissed - in the NL, they'd be 4.5 games ahead of Cincy, but as it is they're 6 games back.
