Rooting for whom?
So the heart says root for the Reds. The head says root against the Reds(I can't actually root for the Dogs)....

Re: Rooting for whom?
Root for the Reds.
There are fewer teams in the NL West race, and the only downside is that we are farther behind. I prefer our chances of outplaying the three other teams in the division race as opposed to the rest of the NL (so it seems) for the Wild Card.
Besides, I like the sound of the "2006 NL West Champions", even though it will probably be less of an accomplishment.

Re: Rooting for whom?
Anyway, go Reds, what with the Richie and all, and being out of the NL West.
Re: Rooting for whom?
Head says - You said it, brother!
Wild card definitely looks trickier to play for. 3 teams ahead of the Giants and 3 more within 2 games. And, of the teams within 2 (Reds, Padres, Phils, Giants), only the Phillies have finished their season series against all the other 3. So if the Phils stay hot, there's no head-to-head opportunities to cool them off. The Phils do still have a bunch of games against Houston, Atlanta and Florida, all of whom may still harbor illusions that they're in the race, but the 3 other top WC teams have no control.
Re: Rooting for whom?
Anyone getting in a serious "if only" mode now that the Giants have clawed their way back into it? I keep saying to myself, "Goofus, why couldn't the Giants merely have split those six games on the road in DC and Pittsburgh?
And being 1-5 over the last six games against the Dodgers is just killing me.

The Padres and Reds play each other six times still and that'll be REALLY interesting, too.

Strange you should ask: But let us bow our heads
Well, Dodgers won
The Reds should have won, but let themselves down with even more bad fielding, and incredibly unclutch batting. One moment encapsulated it all. With the Reds down by 1, with 2 on and 2 out in the ninth, Brandon Phillips took the first three pitches - all strikes - to end the game. It was passivity Magellan can only dream about.

Re: BP, like Ice Cube...
I can't believe we're under .500 and just a game and a half out of the WC. The Red Sox must be so pissed - in the NL, they'd be 4.5 games ahead of Cincy, but as it is they're 6 games back.
