Double Plays

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlbhist/stats/aggregate?statType=batting&group=9&seasonType=2& type=type3&sort=GIDPs&split=0&season=2006

The last three years the Giants have finished top five in double plays hit into (including this one). The last time the Giants finished out of the top five they went to the playoffs in '03. Over the last three years there has been almost a complete turnover in the hitting corps. What this suggests to me is either one or both of two things.

Either:

A) The Giants continually go after the same kind of players.

or

B) The type of at-bat that leads to a greater chance for a double play is an organizational philosophy.

So what do you all think of this? What's the cause? To me its clear that while hitting into a large of amount of double plays isn't in itself completely danming to a succesful campaign it certainly doesn't help and there is a definite corrallary between this stat and losing.
