Dark Globe
Oh where are you now?
Pussywillow that smiled on his leaf
When I was alone
You promised a stone from your heart
My head kissed the ground
I was half the way down
Spinning the sand

Please
Please lift a hand, i'm only a person
who's arm bends beyond, his hands hang tall
Won't you miss me?
Wouldn't you miss me at all?

My head touched the ground
I was half the way down
Strumming the sand

Please lift a hand, i'm only a person
Who's eskimo chain have tattered my brain
All the way
Won't you miss me?
Wouldn't you miss me at all?

Sad news.
It will be a sad day when all the big pioneers of rock have all gone, from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Who, Led Zeppelin.  Who knows what would have happened had even one of those bands not existed.
I take it back, I do blame F.P. Santangelo and Greg Papa.

One more to that list...
Any discussion of pioneering rock bands, whether it be innovation, commercial success, influence, longevity or tragedy, has to include The Beach Boys http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beach_Boys

For some reason, people seem to think of them as merely a novelty act.

Of course.
There are many other bands who could be put in the discussion as well.  I just happened to not mention the Beach Boys.

Re: Of course.
Actually, I thought you nailed the cream of the crop with your list except for The Beach Boys.  Other bands like The Doors, CCR and Fleetwood Mac are just a cut below.

When the spectrum of the list is increased a bit, I'd add Earth, Wind & Fire.

To my original list I might add...
The Beach Boys
Cream
Jimi Hendrix
The Yardbirds (Purely for the guitarists it created)
The Doors (This time purely for lyrics)

I do agree that CCR and Fleetwood Mac are below, I'd add ZZ Top, Steve Miller Band, and some of the other bands to the just below crop as well.

I take it back, I do blame F.P. Santangelo and Greg Papa.

Re: Of course.
Not a band, but if you're discussing the pioneers of Rock n' Roll, it should start with Chuck Berry.

Re: Of course.
Lewis & Clark were pionneers, too.  It's sad that at the end they were reduced to a lounge act in Vegas.

Chuck pioneered it...
The bands I list expanded it enormously.  That's what it would be.

Pioneers would include Fats Domino, Bill Haley, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly.

I take it back, I do blame F.P. Santangelo and Greg Papa.

Re: Of course.
Good point, but one could argue that Berry stole his stuff from Jimmy Johnson (Berry's piano player).

Re: Of course.
The 4 disk reissue of "Hail Hail Rock N Roll" is an essential for the DVD library.
