Miguel Cabrera

According to this link:
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/chronicle/archive/2006/07/11/SPGL2JT3D81.DTL

Miguel Cabrera seems to like Felipe, enough to play for him even. My question is, which players/prospects would you be willing to give up? Assuming that the Marlin's are willing to change their longstated opinion of not dealing him.

Re: I would willingly...
That sounds about right, although they can't have Cain and Lincecum.

Re: I would willingly...
Meaning BOTH Cain and Lincecum.

Re: I would willingly...
Fortunately or not, baseball rules prohibit trading Lincecum for the next year.

Re: Miguel Cabrera
I'd see first if the Marlins would take Lowry as the centerpiece. I don't think he's ever going to be Tom Glavine. And Miguel Cabrera is already Mike Schmidt.

Re: Miguel Cabrera
'"I'd like to play for Felipe, but I don't know if I'll get the chance," said Cabrera, who's from Venezuela. "He's one of the great managers in the big leagues. I've talked to him, and he's a great man."'

That ought to quell much of the clamor for Miquel's services around these parts. Sounds like a pretty smart guy to me.

What would I give up for him? Not Cain. Everyone else is a possibility.

Re: Miguel Cabrera
The Giants don't have the position players to deal to get Cabrera. The Marlins already have a bunch of young pitchers and I don't think the Marlins are going to move Cabrera w/o getting some type of bat back.

Re: Miguel Cabrera
So Miguel Cabrera=Felipe Alou for 5 more years.  Sorry not worth it.

silliness...
The manager has a  very modest (although certainly real) effect on the number of games a team wins each season.  Even assuming Alou sucks royally (an assumption I am not real comfortable with), Miguel Friggin' Cabrera more than compensates for the detriment.

Re: silliness...
Give me a reason to come to the ballpark on any given day. I'll come see Cain, but that's once or twice a week. Magowan needs to pull another Bonds, which may be impossible, I think Soriano would be a good investment.

Re: silliness...
nope.

soriano's gonna sign a $12-15M contract this offseason. That's getting close to Bonds money, and he's not nearly worth it, even in this, the best year of his career. Cabrera = better, cheaper, less of a dick... harder to get, of course, but I'd rather add nobody than Alfonso Soriano.

Re: Miguel Cabrera
Anyone else worried with the lack of fitness from Cabrera that showed up this year.  Not only that he Barry's it around the bases and it bugs the crap out of me because Barry didn't even Barry it until he was 30ish.  That said, dude can mash.  I just worry about him turning into Mo Vaughn by the time he's 27.

Re: Miguel Cabrera
I would not trade Cain for him but Lowry would be a good one if they are willing.

As far as hitters go, it would be a lot easier if EME wasn't banged up again, he would be obvious, he is considered one of the elite hitters in the minors and is a local boy for Florida.  One prospect analysis book rated him the 94th best prospect in 2006, ahead of Jason Kubel, Ian Kinsler, and Josh Barfield.  By position, he was 22nd.  And for top batting average, there was no ranking (that is, no numbers, but strangely not listed alphabetically, which implies a ranking) but he was listed with hitters like Howie Kendrick, Conor Jackson, Daric Barton, Jason Kubel, Jeremy Hermida, Justin Upton, Stephen Drew, Delmon Young, Jones Loney, and Andre Ethier.  So he is considered an elite hitter.

I think if EME wasn't injured, they might take him, Lowry, one of our relievers (Valdez?  Plus they can use relief help), plus Pedro Feliz (to take Cabrera's place at 3B) and some money to offset Feliz' salary.  Well, not injured and Lowry pitching better, he has got to be scaring people with his lack of strikeouts.

Re: Miguel Cabrera
Did anybody see Cabrera laofing it the other day on a ground ball that shouldn't have gotten past him and then took his sweet time chasing down the foul line? His pitcher is  mad because his laziness cost him a run. In the dugout after the third out Cabrera gets in the face of the pitcher and it has to be broken up. Seconds later he pokes the pitcher in the eye as the pitcher walks by.
I don't know about you, but, I could do without any of that on my Giants. Sounds like another AJ in the making, with the prospects we would have to give up for a headache.

Re: Miguel Cabrera
hmm. if true, these reports are disturbing. I'm starting to rethink my Cabreraphilia.

Re: Miguel Cabrera
all in all it's probably best to convince yourself they're true, Lefty. He ain't coming our way regardless so we should all practice thinking less of him.

Re: Miguel Cabrera
Yes, I saw the highlights or lowlights ,as it were of Cabrera and his pitcher going at it. It was the past Saturday or Sunday game.
