Has there been a more viable target for a fruit and vegetable artillery barrage. Can you say $27 million Cabbage?
One could always hope for Boston's closer to go tits up before the deadline.

Not that he had 1 (only one!) outing in which he didn't allow a baserunner. Maybe I'm old-fashioned or something, but when I think of a closer, I think of someone who consistently comes in and gets a 1-2-3 inning and sends the fans home happy.

Re: Open Gameday Thread, 6/24
Giants "brain" trust: "You know and I know that Blownitez is washed up and we're stuck with his big contract. But if we keep running him out there, we might get lucky and he'll string together 4 or 5 saves in a row. He's 4-0 with a good ERA. Someone might bite at the trade deadline and he'd be off our hands."
If that was the goal, I'm OK with it. But now that he's blown 4 of 10, he's pretty much poison and the ruse is up. I can't imagine, at his salary, there are many GMs who would be fooled by his bogus ERA. And the last thing you want a closer to have is a lot of wins.
Looks like the Giants are stuck with this guy. Might as well cut their losses, relegate him to mop-up duty and find out if anyone else can do the job. We already know Mando can't.

Why not leave Sanchez in to bunt? He's given up one hit in 8 innings this year.
Might be worthwhile to give up an out to have a chance at a shutdown inning in the 7th. Especially when the alternative is Flippy Jr hitting into a GIDP.

Serious question
Moises is worth perhaps 6 wins a year above replacement to the Giants. Suppose you got rid of Felipe, you'd most likely lose Moises. Would it be worth it?
Re: Serious question
Re: Serious question
Even if we ended up with a bad manager, I doubt he could be nearly as frustrating to watch as Felipe has been.
Re: Serious question
Re: Open Gameday Thread, 6/24
You've got a uni-dimensional LH PH starting at first in Sweeney. A washed-up VizII as your only backup IF. A way-past-expire-date Finley hitting 3rd or 6th. A double-A backup catcher. A no-better-than-AAA backup outfielder in Ellison. An injury-prone, no-talent starting IB in Niekro. An injury-prone, glue-factory reject starting 2B in Durham. Two 40+ OF'ers with bad wheels in Alou and Bonds.
Even with a good manager, the Giants have nothing to put out there. I'm amazed they're still hovering around the .500 mark.

Then a 40+ LH'er with two prosthetic limbs strokes a double to the CF wall.
Sweeney is a fat tub of crap who should only be used as a PH against RH'ers---as he has effectively been used for almost all of his career. He's becoming this year's version of Herges: taking a useful guy, putting into a situation where he can't succeed, sucking the confidence out of him, leaving him a puddle of useless goo.

Looks like he hit the wall at age 40, as many do. Maybe he stopped juicing.
Still a decent fielder. But sad to see him flail away at the plate. Has no business playing as much as he is. Imagine the Giants know it.
Fox announcers say Finley was joking around before the game about how streaky he is: "I'm consistently inconsistent."
I'd say he's consistently consistent. He's now a .240 hitter with no power who plays good defense. He's JT Snow.

New Strategy: Walk Off Wins
[Snof] 2 innings left to get a few more (and not give up any more)
[Jeff] keep benitez away and we should be fine
[Snof] the key is to not have a lead when we enter the 9th inning
[Jeff] haha
[Snof] otherwise Felipe will bring in Armando
[Jeff] thats so bad to wish for
[Snof] yeah, it's pretty sad that fans have to hope to be behind, knowing it's our only chance at winning

- Whomever convinces me that the tixseeker is an attractive female.

Re: I'm interested
Apparently, I can relay the tickets by email through the Giants website (though you might have to pay them $2/ticket to retrieve; I'm not sure how it works, but I know it does work). I would also be happy to leave them at Will Call but would need a name to give them that would match an ID. Let me know! I would love for you to have them! If not, I would love for the guy right below to have them.
