AAA: Fresno lost to Colorado Springs 12-8
Fresno: LF Fred Lewis : 2 for 5, 3B, SO
Fresno: 2B Kevin Frandsen: 1 for 4, 2B, BB
Fresno: RF Todd Linden: 2 for 4, HR, 2B
Colorado Springs: 1B Ryan Shealy: 4 for 5, 2 HR, 2 2B
Fresno: RHP Brian Cooper: 3.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 0 HR--1 HB
Fresno: RHP Jeff Peterson: 2.1 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 0 HR--1 WP
Fresno: RHP Carlos Hines: 1.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 1 HR
Fresno: RHP Merkin Valdez: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 0 HR
The Grizzlies had six hitters reach base twice, but I highlight just three of them, the three with seemingly the highest upside. Lewis raised his AVG to .270. Frandsen leads Fresno with a .320 AVG. Linden had his 2nd and 3rd XBHs of the year. I expected more playing time in the majors this year for Shealy, but the Rockies prospect has been slowed by some injury issues.
Back from the DL, Cooper struggled a bit. Back to the bulpen after a couple starts, Peterson struggled. He had pitched so well this year before being asked to start. Hines' ERA rose to 3.21. Valdez retired the only batter he faced with strikeout but managed to record two outs. Josh Wilson was caught trying to steal home after he had successfully stolen third base.
AA: Connecticut lost to Akron 1-0
Connecticut: CF Clay Timpner: 1 for 3, BB
Connecticut: 1B Travis Ishikawa: 0 for 3, 3 SO
Akron: DH Kevin Kouzmanoff: 1 for 3, HR, BB, IBB
Connecticut: LHP Pat Misch: 7.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 HR--1 HB, 1 IBB
Timpner had 1 of the Defenders' 2 hits and 1 of 2 walks. Ishikawa's three strikeouts looks worse considering that the rest of the team struck out just once. The Indian's Kouzmanoff has been having a tremendous season, and perhaps he is emerging as a better 3B prospect than Andy Marte, whom was traded first from the Braves to the Red Sox and then from the Red Sox to the Indians this past off-season.
A nice start for Misch, but he was hurt by the solo HR. His ERA fell to 1.82.
A+: San Jose lost to Rancho Cucamonga 3-0
San Jose: SS Marcus Sanders: 2 for 3, 2B, BB
San Jose: 1B Julio Cordido: 2 for 4, SO, CS
San Jose: LHP Jesus Reina: 9.0 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 2 HR
Another nice OBP game for Sanders, raising his ERA to .217. Cordido was the only other Giants to reach base twice. He has been hitting more effectively recently, although not necessarily more effective on the basepaths with now 5 CS.
Wow, a CG loss for Reina. I can't recall him ever pitching into the 7th inning in his pro career. I wonder if the box score failed to include a pitching change.
A-: Augusta defeated Kannapolis 6-5
Augusta: LF Ben Copeland: 2 for 4, 2B
Augusta: SS Eugenio Velez: 2 for 4, HR
Augusta: 3B David Maroul: 2 for 4, 2B
Augusta: RHP Daniel Griffin: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 8 K, 1 HR--1 WP
Augusta: RHP Sergio Romo: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER,1 BB, 1 K, 0 HR
Augusta: RHP Wayne Foltin: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 0 HR
The Greenjackets had three hitters reach base twice, and each of them had an XBH. Copeland and Velez both raised their AVGs to .276. Maroul rebounded nicely from a pair of games with three strikeouts.
Griffin had probably his best start of the season. Romo struggled in his first game since being announced as a participant in the SAL all-star game. Foltin was perfect while collecting his 8th save.
