More Lowry Love

Man that was nice last night.  Am I the only one that thinks that Noah is going to have a Cy Young caliber season?

Last night, he came out and didn't have his best stuff.  But he battled and made pitches when it counted and only gave up 2 runs through 5 innings.  Then he found his good stuff and finished the 6th and 7th with 19 pitches.

He's got a killer changeup, a plus curveball and a deceptively quick fastball.  He works just as well out of the stretch as the windup, and he gets plenty of swing throughs.

I'm starting to feel optimistic!

Re: More Lowry Love
I don't remember him ever having that Zito-esque curveball. 68 on the gun with huge movement to it. I was begging Greene to call for it more often instead of staying predictable to the fastball and changeup.

Who doesn't like him?

We'll never win a World Series.

Like Sara Lee, nobody doesn't like Noah Lowry.

For the record, if she wasn't made up, we'd have all done her by now.

Re: More Lowry Love
No kidding about that curveball.  If he can locate it reliably I don't see how anyone is going to hit that thing.  He even got one on the gun as slow as 66.

Re: More Lowry Love
It's almost an eephus pitch, which I'm not a big fan of. Livan used to throw a similar slow looper like that. It's ok to steal a strike once in a while, but I'd rather a good sharp curve that could be used as a strikeout pitch.

Re: More Lowry Love
I don't think you can throw that pitch twice in the same AB.

Maybe he doesn't need it more than once....
His fastball-change combo is a formidable one two punch, if he can steal a first strike or freeze a couple of hitters with it a game it works for me.
It's gonna be a loooooooooooooooooooooong season.

The big slow curveball
isn't his only curveball though.  He also has a more conventional one that he can throw for strikes.

Re: The big slow curveball
I remember some games last year when that curve was his best pitch. I was hoping to see more of last night. The Livan-looper just doesn't impress me.

Re: More Lowry Love
I think you guys all know this by now. But I am dangerously obsessed with Noah for someone who lives about a billion gazillion miles away. All right, 1000. But that's a LONG WAY! Whenever he comes here, I feel like stalking him. Unfortunately, I can't do it by myself and no one else is interested. Dang it.

Yay for Noah! Seeing him do well is like warm fuzzies X1000.

Re: More Lowry Love
lowry could very well be the next tom glavine. he's shown nothing to indicate otherwise.  20 years of productive left handed 200plus innings per year. pray for good health.  next to bonds, my favorite giant.
he blames tomko and i blame magowan; lets call the whole thing off.

Re: More Lowry Love
I first saw Lowry pitch during his first major league start at Camden Yards. The Giants may have lost that game, but I knew I witnessing magic. Maybe not. I was just in awe that a guy named Noah was pitching for the Giants. And I was watching it in person.

I found out later that the guy was born a mere one year and 364 days after me. And he's the first major leaguer named Noah to play in more than 2 games. Awesome.

Still the best $24.99 I've ever spent. Here are Lowry's numbers during games I've worn my Lowry shirt.

Innings  Hits  ER  Walks  KO    ERA     WHIP
75 2/3      60   19   29      53    2.26    1.18
