Open Gameday Thread, 5/4

Goin' to the game today...in San Jose. I'll be the dork in the McCovey Chronicles tee, should anyone else be there.

10:05 a.m. is too danged early for a major league game, that's for sure.

I hate these early games.  Let's hope Doug Davis is as wild as he's been so far this season.  If he walks Petey the Brewers are in trouble.

Frandsen
Vizcaino

I guess pretty much any Giants lineup without Bonds is going to fail to inspire awe.

Re: Open Gameday Thread, 5/4
The funny thing is the umpire got the call right, but for the wrong reason.  The fielder must remove the ball from his glove with his bare hand to record the out, you can't drop it from the glove to the ground. Since Greene didn't do that, Fielder was safe, but the umpire called him safe because he thought the ball came loose on the tag.

Can't Matheny
"the toughest man alive" be used as a stunt double for Green and other better hittting catchers?  You know, when a dangerous play is about to occur, you call time and bring in Matheny to take the impact and then re-substitute the other catcher.  That way we could keep a decent bat in the line-up.

I just looked up Hennessey's stats -- 5K and 9BB in 19 innings.  He's just been lucky.  There's going to be a correction -- after today, it needs to happen at Fresno.

no doubt
Hennessey has made some good starts in a career, but I don't think he has much value as a big league reliever. I'd rather have Accardo.

Maybe we should send Brad down tomorrow and bring up a catcher (Alfonzo and Knoedler are on the 40-man) for a few days until Lowry is activated and Greene regains consciousness.

Me too.  I'd say he's my number 1 candidate to be sent down when Wilson is ready to rejoin the pen.  Apparently, he needs to work on some things.

I'm still playing catchup here, but help me out...

Why Harding?  His corrupt administration?  The fact that he died in office while visiting San Francisco?  Is it the eyebrows?  Or is it just because?

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing.  I keep think Sir Walter Raleigh would be cool.

Personally, I curse Sir Walter Raleigh.  He was such a stupid git.

Re: This ones for EliminateMe
Well, for what it's worth...since Salemicus' Rally Johnsons seemed to be faltering, I thought we needed to try other options. I looked through Wikipedia for presidential portraits and I thought Harding looked stern and imposing enough to inspire a rally.

Besides, I always thought "Teapot Dome" was a really funny name for a scandal. Now I wish I'd chosen it as my MCC login name...

So, short answer: yes, it's just because.

Indeed, Harding's was a rather imperious visage.

Personally I just hope we don't sink to "Rally Carters".

Did it look like Sweeney didn't understand the situation?  The idea is to get on base for Barry to have a chance.

Why didn't Bonds hit for Fleas? Is he not
available?  Sorry, at work, with no radio/TV.

Thx!

Re: Why didn't Bonds hit for Fleas? Is he not
Bonds was on-deck to hit behind Fleas. Don't ask me why they didn't put Bonds in right then. Probably because Feliz hit the HR last night, I don't know. It seemed like a dumb move (or non-move).

Bonds couldn't tie it...
...so even if he got on, you would be left with Niekro, who has been worse than Feliz this year, and much worse lately.

Re: Bonds couldn't tie it...
Niekro had already been double-switched out, so that was the logical place to hit Bonds.

Ugh
Well, we rested two of our best players and had the fifth (really, sixth) starter going, and it was a day game after a night game on the road, so it's not really the worst one to lose, I guess...

Re: Ugh
Splitting a two-game series on the road against a team that's been playing really well might not be such a horrible thing.  Taking 2 of 3 from the Phillies would be a nice salvage.

Re: Ugh
The phillies series wouldn't seem so crucial if we didn't lose both games at home against the padres.
