Feliz name co-NL Player of the Week

Just saw it:

http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20060522&content_id=1466 174&vkey=pr_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb

I still cringe everytime he comes up to bat, but he did pretty well this past week and I'm happy for him.

Re: Feliz name co-NL Player of the Week
Yes, he did do well last week but what has he done for us lately?  :^)

Interesting that Matt Cain was included in the vote, I wonder if he would have won had he thrown a no-hitter instead.

Lowry and Cain, then wish for more of the same

In n' Out Burger Presents Kitspool's Response
"Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week"? For goodness sake, does everything has to have a sponsorship attached to it?

Re: In n' Out Burger Presents Kitspool's Response
The Comeback Player of the Year award is sponsored by Viagra.

Jason Giambi won it last year for the AL, I wonder if Barry can keep it uh...  going all season long.

Yeah, it's really out of hand.

Re: In n' Out Burger Presents Kitspool's Response
Slightly off-topic, but I love that Jon Miller refuses to use as many of the corporate names as he can. "Off the cars..." instead of "off the Chevron sign." I also love his consistent use of "in-house monitor" instead of "TV" when describing replays.

On the other hand, Greg Pappas seems to bend over backwards to include a mention of all the corporate sponsors: "...and Finley catches it in front of the Visa sign and in a tangential line to the Yahoo! scoreboard sign."

Re: In n' Out Burger Presents Kitspool's Response
And he goes OUT OF HIS MIND when he has to do "A passion for the business of accounting." The entire next inning is in phone-sex voice. With Dave giggling mightily in the background.

I know this is treason....
But former A's voice Papa is a great baseball broadcaster.

Giants were lucky to get him a few years ago.

Re: I know this is treason....
I don't think he's a great baseball broadcaster but he's decent/passable. He knows his stuff, at least. I don't dislike him nearly as much as most of the McC bloggers seem to. He understandably suffers by comparison to heavyweights like Miller, Kuip, Kruk and Flem. We're just really, really spoiled.

Incidentally, I thought Papa was great when he broadcast the Warriors games. You want to talk about crappy play-by-play guys with nasal-y voices that drive me batshit? Two words: Tim Roy.

Re: I know this is treason....
Papa was terrific doing Warrior games and pretty good with the Raiders.  I've always liked him.

As the Giants' equivalent of a fifth outfielder, we could do a lot worse.  (I'm talking about YOU, Tim McCarver!)

Yes, we're spoiled.

Your Local Chevy Dealers present Lyle's Response
Yeah Kitspool, that corporate sponsorship thing has gotten out of hand. My corporate handlers and I long for the simpler days of old, when men were men, the cattle were nervous, and Archer Daniels Midland ruled with an iron fist.
Waiting for Travis, Nate, Marcus, and Nick P.

Yeah...
So Feliz hit a home run with an 8 run leade, a 6 run lead, and a 7 run lead?  Clutch hits there.

Statistically he had a great week, but watching it, it just was more of the same.

Re: Yeah...
Feliz doubled in a 2-0 game and later scored.

He hit a grand slam in the third inning of a 4-0 game... it's kind of a stretch to call this "a home run with an 8 run lead."

Feliz singled in a run in the first inning to make the score 2-0; he would later score.

He had an RBI single in a 6-1 game which was still in doubt since it was only the fourth inning.

He stunk up the joint all weekend in Oakland, but his one hit was a key single in a game-winning rally in extra innings, and his third inning walk led to a big inning yesterday.

And it's more than a good week statistically... he's hitting .314/.336/.585 over the last month.

Given his track record, we can expect to see "more of the same" any time now, but this is a legitimate month-long hot streak. We might as well enjoy it.

Yeah I know...
But it just seems he never hits the big home runs.  A 3 run home run when tied, or behind.  You know those kinds.  A grand slame while 4 up, while is big, really just seals up what was a good lead in the first place (for most teams at least).

Re: Yeah...
With this bullpen, the Giants needed every single one of those runs.  NO LEAD IS SAFE!

Re: I loathe Feliz as much as the next guy....
He also struck out three times yesterday, and yet again looked clueless at the plate.  I'd be estatic if he didn't flail as much, even if that meant he didn't go deep as often.  Better yet, a hit to the opposite field would be a welcome sight.

Congrats to Pedro. Still want him batting 6th or 7th, but he has done well. Now, if we can just get Alou and Niekro back ...
