Finley at 1B?

Has anyone heard about him getting some time at first? There is a little blurb in the San Diego paper saying he is taking infield practice at first.

Re: Finley at 1B?
I saw that too on benmaller.com (which linked to the San Diego paper). I do remember hearing something during the pre-season that suggested this was possible, but what was said was very vague...

Re: Finley at 1B?
If it is true that he is willing to do this, then I am even more impressed with him, he really want to get as many ABs as he can get.
Yeah, Go Frandsen!!!

Re: Finley at 1B?
Since Finley and I have a symbiotic relationship and can read each others minds, I can assure you he'd be game if asked.  He's a gamer.

At this point I wouldn't mind seeing him get more ABs there and let Sweeney spell the OFs vs. righties and Ellison vs. lefties.

So far, Bonds has played a LOT more games than most of us probably expected.  Assuming Alou's calf doesn't linger, I'm all for getting Funley more ABs.

The following order goes 6 deep and alternates L/R pretty well.

Omar
Frandsen/Durham
Winn
Bonds
Alou
Finley
Feliz
Matheny
Pitcher

Re: Finley at 1B?
i'd be happy with this lineup... wait, let me rephrase- i'd be happIER with this lineup for the rest of the year.

I'm not sure
he'd be any better than Sweeney, offensively or defensively.  The Giants have a pretty good rotation in the OF, where Finley serves them well.

I don't know about this...
Finley didn't want to play left or right field when he plays so why would he switch to 1B?

Re: I don't know about this...
I never saw that he refused or rejected LF or RF.  I only heard Alou refer to all the gold gloves in CF and say when he's in there, he's the CF.

Re: Finley at 1B?
The problem with Finley at 1B is that his OF starts then got to Jason Ellison, because there's no way Alou/Bonds can start every day.  And frankly, neither can Finley.

Replacing Niekro with Ellison in the lineup does not get you much.

Re: Finley at 1B?
As said by me above, there's the Sweeny factor.  I think he's actually better defensively in the corner OF spots than at 1B.

Re: Finley at 1B?
I haven't read the blurb in the news but I would presume that Finley would only play 1B on the days that Bonds/Winn/Alou are in the OF, and probably only against RHP (since Niekro suppose to kill LHP, though not so far this season, he's been totally lost, kind of like Winn too, very odd).
Yeah, Go Frandsen!!!

Re: Finley at 1B?
He needs to learn 3B, not 1B.

Re: Finley at 1B?
Finley throws left-handed, so he can't play 3B.

since when do we follow rules? (see: not resting bonds at night/niekro at first/pedro playing every day/signing the oldest free agents we can find)

Re: Finley at 1B?
The guy is leading the lead in triples at age 41... don't tell him what he can't do! I'm sure he'd quickly master the 270 degree spin/throw to first when fielding bunts.

Re: Finley at 1B?
As presdient of the "Finley Fan Club, McC Chapter", I can certainly say with a certain degree of certainty, that if you give him 3 days of practice, he'd be throwing seeds right-handed like his old Astros/Padres teammate Ken Caminiti (absent the chemical enhancement).

Re: Finley at 1B?
We should promote pablo sandoval to teach him to throw with his other hand.
