Cue the violins:
Infielder Edgardo Alfonzo continues to grow frustrated over lack of playing time in Anaheim, the Riverside Press Enterprise reports. Although Alfonzo has not officially requested a trade, his agent, Peter Greenberg, spoke of a possible deal with the Mets, which would send Kaz Matsui to Southern California for the veteran.I got this from CBS Sportline's Rumor Mill section, thought people would enjoy this.
Now that's the deal the Giants supposedly nearly pulled off last season and was again supposedly near doing this off season.
I, at that time, wanted the Matsui deal more because then he could be our MI utility guy whereas with Alfonzo we still needed a SS backup, I thought a backup vet OF was a luxury when we would have Ellison, Linden, and Ortmeier as possible backups in the outfield. But it has worked out so much better this way so far.
I also thought Finley would be closer to pre-2005 version than his 2005 version but he has played way better than any of us could have ever dreamed he would. He's not hitting for the HR power he had before, which anyone could have seen because he's a lefty now hitting at AT&T Mays Field but he's more than made up for it with his 2B/3B hitting.
Go Giants!
