J.Sanchez to the 'Pen
Interesting tidbit on the Connecticut (Double-A) pregame radio show just now...
Apparently they're going to put Jonathan Sanchez in the bullpen, at least for now. The idea is to get him accustomed to 'pen work just in case the Giants need him in the bigs!
Wow. Sanchez on the fast track.
Matt Palmer will be moving into the rotation.
Separately: Ishikawa will be out a couple more days. His foot isn't broken but there's a contusion. (uh, whatever that is.)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I'd also like to note that jerking Valdez around sure helped him.
Re: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Re: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
no, it did not, as it pretty much wasted 2004 for Valdez.
to recap:
2004 Dominates San Jose, and is moved to Norwich. Pitches well, then is moved to the pen because the Giants are jealous of K-rod and his quick rise. Shortly after, Valdez is called up the majors in the middle of a pennant race. His first game is against the Cardinals, and as I recall, he was brought in with a couple of men on base to face the heart of the very dangerous Cardinals lineup. He spent a short while up, then was sent back. He did get one AAA start. So, instead of getting ~150 AA innings, he only got 85. So, he repeated AA in 2005 and pitched well, but not dominant.
Side notes:
A couple things: Injury risk to pitchers increases as they change roles - sometimes they adjust, but some guys aren't able to pitch every other day, and some aren't able to go 200 IP a year.
I think Valdez and Correia are similar pitchers; while they seem like they would make good RP, they make better starters. They seem to have the ability to work through control problems during a start, but my guess is that they need time to warm up.
I love...
But don't worry, I will remained firmly ensconed in the driver's seat until it drives off the freakin' cliff.
I'm gonna tell...
Re: I love...
initial and uninformed reaction
In fairness, the Giants don't have that many LH relief prospects in Fresno. But with Kline, Fassero, Taschner and Threets already on the 40-man roster, was it really necessary to move Sanchez to the bullpen already? Unless the Giants think that Sanchez can never develop his offspeed pitches into even major league average offerings, this seems like a bad move--a panicked reaction to three weeks of bad results.
Question for thought: Would this move still be made if Coutlangus was still on the 40-man roster? I am not sure it would make a difference. Coutlangus's stats for this year so far:
8 G, 10.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 6 BB, 11 K, 0 HR
Can we read anything into this about what the Giants think of Erick Threets?
Why?
I find this all very disturbing.
