Pop culture vulture and sports fan Chuck Klosterman's take on Barry's pursuit of Ruth and Aaron:

With his somewhat obscure writing style it's a bit hard to tell at times how much Klosterman's critical of what Bonds is alleged to have done to his body and how much he's critical of everyone else for making Bonds the poster boy for their collective delusion about what many players were doing to their bodies.
What's striking to me, reading this and other articles in the national media, is just how wide the gap is between the joy we (most of us) get from watching Bonds play and chase this record, and how joyless the rest of the country finds it --almost like it's offensive (no pun intended) to them. It seems impossible for other fans to separate Barry the human being from Barry the baseball player. Interested to know what the rest of you think.
