Choi in Beantown

According to ESPN, the BoSox have picked up Hee-Seop Choi off of waivers from the Dodgers.  The story here:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2382860

Does this spell the end of JT's short run in Boston?  It really doesn't look like a good mix of bench players for the Sox, were they to keep both Snow and Choi.  The article suggests a move of Kevin Youkilis to third, considering Mike Lowell's uncertain future, but I just don't see that.

This can't be good for JT.

Re: Choi in Beantown
I didn't realize Dustan Mohr was already on that team as well.

Can't wait to see him and JT hustling for the same foul ball in the stands.

In the eighth inning of a 13-2 Red Sox loss, I mean.

Re: Choi in Beantown
Mohr's chances are good either, given that the Sox just picked up Wily Mo.

Re: Choi in Beantown
If I'm remembering my waiver rules right, this means the Giants passed on Choi. They certainly have more confidence in Niekro than I do.

Re: Choi in Beantown
JT is in Boston for a different reason than Choi. Choi, despite all his whiffs, still has promise as a power hitter. JT is late inning defense with nary a throwaway at-bat -- just about the opposite of Choi. Plus as a waiver pickup, Choi is a one-year cheapie for the BoSox. JT has two guaranteed years - even if he is cut.

If Snow were to be cut, there are approximately 100 major league teams (including the Giants) who would love great defense at first base in the late innings at a waiver price.

Re: Choi in Beantown
And Pena's now free. We missed Choi - we ought to be able to get Pena at least.
