Why is everyone so eager to throw away Lowry?

I dont see any sense in trying to trade lowry at this point. lets be honest, the Giants arent going to be world series champions within the next 2 years (the amount of time Sexson and Manny are locked up) so why throw away our young talent that WILL be apart of the next quality Giants team. Our future rides on the back of Lowry, Sanchez, Cain, Timmeh, and Sanchez not Sexson or Manny.

Re: Why is everyone so eager to throw away Lowry?
completely agree with you.  Lowry is young, cheap and has a huge upside.

Like i have stated in earlier posts: If the giants are gonna trade for a power hitter to complement Bonds, it should be a deal that doesn't give up Lowry

Benitez and a prospect for Burrell would be ideal.

Bring Bonds back 1 more year, and i think we have a lineup that can contend for the west

Next year if the Giants can land Andruw Jones or Vernon Wells, the giants will be good.  And Lowry will be a big part of it.  WE NEED TO KEEP LOWRY

I've been suffering from post traumatic stress disorder ever since Game 6.

thank you for agreeing with me, we all critize sabean for not rebuilding yet everyone here is eager to trade young for old, i could be wrong but i believe it is suppose to work the other way

Re: Why is everyone so eager to throw away Lowry?
I'm with you.  While I'm not opposed to sending Lowry away for something really nice, I also don't want him to go.  I find him a pretty decent, young and cheap pitcher; I find him a part of a potential rotation that looks pretty damn good in a year or two.  Now?  It's also a sad state of affairs that he's the one (and only) name that keeps coming up to trade.  Get rid of Benitez.  I'd rather risk a guy like Sanchez than Lowry.

Re: Why is everyone so eager to throw away Lowry?
I was going to save this for somewhere else, but I'm so tired of seeing the words "trade" and "Lowry" in the same sentence that I've just gone and blanked it out. I'm in denial. No way they'll do that ... no way in hell ... nuh-uh. If I don't pay attention to it, it won't happen.

Re: Why is everyone so eager to throw away Lowry?
I wouldn't say I'm eager but the fact is that it's like making money. Have to spend it to make it. Of our young pitching talent he's the one I'd give up, gun to my head. I do not want him to leave as part of the Ramirez package, however. If we're giving Lowry up we'd better get something worth it in return and Ramirez is not worth it.

The first one you'd give up? Before Hennessey?

Oh, wait, you said pitching talent. Right. OK, carry on.

Lowry for Carl Crawford
I haven't heard it anywhere, but I'm just saying...
We'd be pretty good if we didn't suck so bad.

Re: Why is everyone so eager to throw away Lowry?
I think we should keep Lowry too, but I see the logic in trading him:

Lowry's trade value now is probably an all-time high.  He is a solid mid-to-rear rotation guy at a good price.  With pitching so thin this offseason, you could get a lot for Lowry trading him now.  Also, his ERA has declined the last 3 seasons.  If he declines more then what we can get for him in a year or two will be much less than what we could now.  If we are really building for the future it makes more sense to trade Lowry for good hitting prospects than to keep him and try for the postseason in 2007.  Also, Lowry is young, but he's not Matt Cain young.  He has been in the league for 3 seasons and is competent but will likely never be a star.

Re: Why is everyone so eager to throw away Lowry?
It's all very simple:  the Giants best trading chip who is not untouchable is Lowry.  Cheap salary, good talent, explainable bad year.  If he's bad again in 2007, his value will plummet, so the Giants are kicking tires to see what they can get with their best trading chip.  If it nets them a young stud, then maybe they will bite;  hopefully they won't bite on an old expensive vet.
Now sign the big boy....
