I can't even guess as to what it would take to outbid other teams for a creaky Randy Johnson, especially if the Diamondbacks could offer something from their pile of young riches.

One rumor has the D'backs offering 3 players in return, plus the Yanks want to dump his entire salary.  No thanks.

Does Scott Boras, by any chance represent Randy Johnson?  I mean, there's no way that Barry Zito is going to sign with anybody soon if he and Boras think the Yanks might trade RJ and then turn around and get into the Zito hunt.  I've got to believe that either Boras is trying to engineer something that will jack up the already insane market for Zito or else he's dropped this rumor to make other teams THINK the Yanks might try for Zito.

I'd give up Hennessy and take the Unit's full salary if it prevented us from giving Zito a ridiculous 4/6 year offer.

I don't want Randy Johnson at most any price (except cheap, I guess I could go for cheap). He's over twice as old as I am, and he's coming off a couple of years of pretty drastic decline topped off by, yum, tasty surgery. Plus, playing games in the cold isn't going to do him any good, I hear.

Anyway, last I heard the Giants were no longer mentioned in this possible deal (granted, I didn't hear them mentioned in passing on KNBR), so oh well. I can live without him.

He would look awfully strange in the orange and black, too.

I'd trade Hennessey or Correia for him solely because I think he'll be good in the very near future and I don't think much of Hennessoria. Look past his ERA, his peripherals were excellent and he put them up in the AL East. He'd be the best pitching on the Giants in '07.

I wouldn't put my own money on a 43 year old post-surgery Big Unit being better than a 22 year old Matt Cain in 2007. Or anyway, not much of my own money. They had nearly identical WHIP and total strikeouts in 2006, and Johnson has been on a slow decline for several years now.
