Yankees hit with $26 million luxury tax

Ordinarily, this would belong in the non-giants league news(?), but I think this deserves a a special case:

http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20061222&content_id=1767192&vkey=news_mlb &fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb

"But at the end of the day, it's always been George Steinbrenner's philosophy to win. If a difference-maker is attainable, the Boss goes and gets him."

Wow, another "at the end of the day," from someone not as savvy, intelligent, and handsome as GM Brian Sabean.

(sorry about the poorly posted link)

Sigh
I wish the Giants paid a hefty luxury tax.  Of course, that would mean we'd be paying for more expensive crappy guys.

Re: Yankees hit with $26 million luxuay tax
The Giants are liable to be the only team in history to pay a luxury tax on washed up San Diego Padres.

Even with an essentially limitless budget, the Yanks still aren't set at 1B for next season.  There was talk of Shea Hillenbrand earlier in the offseason, but now they're actually eyeing Mark Loretta.

Hillenbrand was actually upset today that the Yankees hadn't made him an offer. I guess he kept reading in the New York papers that they wanted him. That's what he gets for listening to the New York media!!

Yep, the Democrats are back in power.
Once more unto the breach, dear friends (where "breach" = another meaningless October.)

OH, NO!  Where on Earth will the impecunious Yanks ever find the money to pay such a usurious excise?
