Reading a little about the Red Sox tactics in "trying" to sign Matsuka I have to say I am not suprised that talks are breaking down. It sounds like they are trying to avoid the luxury tax by having his Japanese team turn over a chunk of the posting fee to Matsuka in lieu of regular salary. As you might expect Boras is having no part of that action.

Speaking of Japanese players that haven't signed yet, Tampa Bay and Akinori Iwamura still haven't agreed on a contract either. His deadline is apparently also the 15th.

Several newspapers here in Japan are reporting that Matsuzaka has flown back to America to see for himself what's going on with negotiations. One paper (Sports Nippon) said "he looked worried".
