News from down south

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-dodgers21nov21,0,2185664.story?coll=la-home-sports

Two notable notes about the Dodgers search for power:
"Carlos Lee has told the Dodgers that he doesn't want to play on the West Coast."
And,
"Colletti reiterated that he has no interest in signing Barry Bonds."

But the real laugher: "This man gets on base an awful lot," Colletti said of Pierre.

Re: News from down south
FYI, I've reported this and other news on Irwin's 11/20 diary this morning.

Other news include Cubs hot after Gary Matthews, plus Phillies and Giants interested, but he appears headed back to Texas.  Also, Giants turning to Dave Roberts now, according to today's Merc.

I'm bored, how about you?

Re: News from down south
not great news, but probably the best of the three for us, considering the prices. i'd much rather have roberts at 2yr/8mil than Matthews at 4/36

yea!!! No Lee!
now we all can celebrate that the Giants won't get another stud outfielder!
We'd be pretty good if we didn't suck so bad.

Re: yea!!! No Lee!
When there's a stud OF to not get then we can celebrate:  Lee is not a stud OF.

Vlad is a stud OF.  So is Carlos Beltran.  Magglio Ordonez was one and might be again if he gets over his injury problems.  Andruw Jones is a stud OF, and so is Adam Dunn, and both will be available, hopefully, as free agents next off-season.

Save our pennies for them, they are stud OFs, Lee only appears to be a stud because the free agent pool is filled with 90 pound weaklings and he appears to be bigger and better than he is, it's like that warning on the car mirror, objects are not as big as they appear.

However, this season, he's going to get stud OF money, he's going to be overpaid, much like Pierre has been overpaid, because there were no better options available out there.

It would be like buying a very nice sedan when you want a sports car, but you pay sports car price for that very nice sedan because there's no other car available on the lot and the slimy car dealer just put his dealer markup sticker on it and you can't get a car anywhere else, as it is not available anywhere else either.  But you need your car so you pay the damn prices...

I'm bored, how about you?

Re: News from down south
Another bit from that LA Times article I find useful:

"I was hoping to be back and wanted to be back," [Nomar] said. "I didn't entertain other offers. My intention first and foremost was to work out a deal here."

It goes to show how we fans don't see a lot of the dynamics of free agency. We say, geez, why didn't the Giants go after so-and-so, or try harder. Often players simply aren't interested. We tend to forget that.

Never mind whatever I do!!! Fan is my tresure!!!

Close to home
Garciaparra wanted to play close to his LA roots. He was either going to sign with Dodgers or Angels. He should send JD Drew a beautiful Christmas present because Ned was not making Garciaparra a priority prior to Drew opting out.

Plus his wife, Mia Hamm is pregnant and he wanted some stability.
